You may or may not recognize this featured ride while in fact this is the one and only Vortech powered beast owned by SiRacer, webmaster of ClubSi.
Its not a looker beyond the polish of the factory paint and shine from the stock 15" wheels, but it is no doubt a
sleeper with the stock outside appearance. The goal with this car was to make a harmless looking Civic Si into a feared beast on the
streets and track alike. Although still unfinished, it is very close to that goal now. You may already know about what rests under the hood
but most do not suspect the Vortech supercharger powering the 1.6L B16A2 to over 350 horsepower and 221 torque at the
wheels! The power numbers are only on the rise as well so what may seem unreal now will lack description as tuning progresses. Most of the
gains come from the massive Vortech supercharger under the hood which
pushed 15psi of boost at 8600rpm during the 350whp dyno run. Also to thank for such strong gains without problem is the finely tuned
Hondata Stage 3B. The map used on the 350whp dyno run was provided by Payn Technologies
(www.payntechnologies.com) however further tuning has been done by myself and a local tuner.
Although the B16 is a strong motor from the factory, it was decided to reinforce the block by having it sleeved by Bensons Performance
Machine who also assembled and balanced the internals. The pistons selected are Endyn "Roller Wave" pistons with slightly lower compression
making higher boost levels possible. Crower forged billet rods also strengthen the works as a whole. This combination of high strength
parts and fine tuning has allowed the motor to run strong even as a daily driver for the past 15,000 miles without problems.
Since I have changed so many parts of the engine itself, I will run down some of the changes quickly starting with the Endyn crankcase breather
system, FAL radiator fan, MSD 6AL ignition, JDM NGK "Power Cables" plug wires, Vortech SuperFMU fuel pressure regulator with 1:1 rise rate,
Vortech fuel rail, RC Engineering 550cc fuel injectors, Kamakazi ceramic coated header with 2.5" collector, Thermal R&D "Stealth" cat-back
exhaust system, Energy Suspension motor mount inserts, ITR intake manifold, removed A/C and P/S pumps and a number of other parts.
To help lay the power down, a Clutch Masters Stage 4 clutch paired to a Toda Racing 9lb flywheel pound the power through a Kaaz 1.5 way
limited slip differential. Smooth shifting is assisted by the tranny full of B&G Synchroshift fluid mixed with Ford friction modifier.
Since power without control isn't wise, the suspension was not untouched. Starting at the front a brand new Z10 Engineering Radius Arm kit
provides better suspension feel as well as stronger drag launches without wheel hop. A Mugen upper strut tower brace holds things up top
while a Progress full coilover system provides control down low. Generic upper and lower braces keep the rear stiff in corners. Mounted on
the stock 15" wheels are Dunlop SP Sport 5000 tires which provide the bite to the road all year round. Inside the car also appears mostly
stock with the exception of the carbon fiber dash overlays and the custom gauge pods that house an Autometer boost gauge and oil pressure
gauge above the steering wheel and an Autometer full sweep 100psi fuel pressure gauge, EGT and a water temp gauge in place of the stock radio.
The radio was relocated using factory parts to the lower pocket behind the cup holders. For the most part the interior is otherwise stock
however a partial roll cage and Sparco race seats are planned for the future. Although still a work in progress, it runs consistent 13.2
second times with traps in excess of 110mph on street tires and mid-high 12 second times on 22" slicks with excessive tire spin. This coming year it should get closer
to 11 second times with an upgraded 8 rib pulley setup (currently using a 4 rib pulley for the supercharger which slips at high RPM's) and
larger slicks to help with traction off the line. *Click images to display popup image gallery*
