Greddy turbo owners unite!

I just want to get an idea who at CSi is running the Greddy turbo system on their car...

Please list the vehicle it is equipped on including motor (so we know all those hybrid Greddy users out there), the boost level you are running and if you have dyno results please post your wheel hp and tq numbers. Also feel free to brag your timeslips (please indicate if on street tires, street "slicks" or drag only slicks).

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

I'm running a Greddy Turbo on my 1999 Honda Civic Si. Now I'm running roughly 5 Psi with the Type 24 intercooler. Before the intercooler I was running at about 6 Psi and I dynoed at 170 WHP and 130 ft/lb (This dyno run was on a totally stock car besides the turbo, ngk plugs, and retarded timing).

I have a Greddy on my otherwise stock Si. Still waiting on my intercooler and exhaust. Currently leaking oil at the oil feed line to the turbo. Had the turbo removed to fix the leak, went home and it STILL leaks! Anyone else had this problem? I need some encouragement because I'm about ready to give up!

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

I've got kit with the Type 24 intercooler and Type S bov. I'm still using the stock cat and Evo exhaust. 8 psi at the max still using the POS blue box for over 10,000 miles now (knock on wood ). Clutch duties are taken care of by an ACT heavy duty plate and street disc (HD/SS). My only complaint is the lack of tunability so I'm getting a Hondata when funds allow it. No dyno numbers yet but hopefully and can get her on there this summer to see what kind of power I'm making. Track times are in my sig.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

FBP Si 2000 and fontanes, thanks for the suggestion but they already used teflon paste yesterday. I'm pretty clueless at the moment, but maybe Greddy has some answers.

Someone said it might be because of the Mobil 1 10w30 "supersyn." Their newer formulas seem to create leaks for a lot of people. There was no reason for Mobil to change from their original formula, which was the best oil I've ever used, to 2 different "tri-synthetic" formulas, and now "supersyn." It's obviously a marketing scam to cover up for cheaper ingredients. Then again, maybe there's a hairline crack in my turbo or defective oil feed fitting? I have no idea at this point.

I know this is a forum for people already with a Greddy kit, but I'm not one of them. I am interested in getting the kit (2000 Si) sometime in the next 4 months or so, and have a few questions.

First, does the kit some with an intercooler? I assume that it does not, looking at the Greddy website.

Also, what are your impressions about how it drives? How does it feel around town, how does it feel racing, etc.

Are there any problems with the kit that would require me to buy a replacement part prior to installation?

By no means this is an all inclusive list of my questions, but it is a start.

HURRY UP & JOIN THE GROUP!!!
1). No the kit doesnt come w/ an i/c but you can get the small GReddy(31) for like 675, and the large(24) for 750.
2).Drives great on stock boost (although alittle rich).
3).Only thing everyone hates is their FCU,so yes getting a standalone would be preferrable. Also, depending on how much you boost you run a bigger downpipe would be beneficial. My 2 cents

Lol, I'm on my way, all of my paychecks are heading in that direction. Now to get some more hours...

What would you suggest in the way of exhaust systems for the kit? I think I want to go with possibly a 2.5 inch system from the turbo back, but I don't know yet.

If I decide to go with the larger IC, what kind of boost could I run safely with stock internals? Oh, and I'll most likely be running the AEM standalone.

I've been running upto 8psi with the blue box for over 12,000 miles now.
Large IC

Greddy Evo exhaust (2.3 inch)
ACT clutch
BKR7E-11 spark plugs

I just did a compression test last week and they came back 210, 205, 215, 210. If you go with the AEM, you could get larger injectors and run 8 psi all day reliably.......the blue box is not exactly reliable so I feel like I'm pushing my luck sometimes.

Has anyone tried a larger downpipe? I'm curious how much this helps with the spool. Looks like I'm keeping my car now. I plan to build the block this fall, run 15-18psi daily, add a LSD, and hit 300whp. That should be enough to keep me competitive with the local DSM boys.

I have a 2.5" DP and testpipe. . .I can feel it spool quicker but I couldn't tell a HUGE difference. 300WHP should be easy w/ 15 psi. Good luck though. It still boggles my mind how people w/ larger downpipes and testpipes are only seeing like 6 or 7psi. I cant see anything under 9 and when I turn on the Profec B I hit 12???

Quickie here. Whoever it was that was having oil Return line leakage problems, all you need to do is replace the fitting on the end of the return line> The steel braided line fitting on the side that leaks is the problem. We just replaced the fitting, and no more leakage.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite! SAFE FOR DAILY DR

Not to have the above happen, what is recommend for making a Greddy Kit " Safe For Daily Driving" ? MSD / Cold Plugs / Water Injection / compression reduction / turbo timer / etc.

Also, I have heard from a couple of people that their stock 8psi setup piked to 12+ psi during a race. Can this be controled via loosening a BOV to leak at X psi?

And what is the best BOV for LOW LOW psi blow by to assure no more then X psi goes through to your throttle body?

I have a '00 civic ex with a greddy kit for a '95 civic and a greddy type-s bov.
Immortaly2k~I don't think that a loose bov could cause boost spike, It would probably cause you to loose boost. The bov doesn't control how much boost you run, it just releases the excess boost between shifts so you don't get compressor surge.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

Ya man.. I know the use of a BOV. Some BOV's leak at X amount of boost, which is a good thing if you have a Internally Gated turbo like a (14b/16g/18g/20g/etc), which "might" have a bit to small of a flap which "may" promote spikes "boost creep" under certain circumstance.

As a safe guard, one could use a blow off valve which leaks at X amount of boost, lets say 8psi, loosen up the nut on an adjustable BOV, to minimize the threat of excess boost from entering the Throttle Body and causing damage.

example: The 2nd Gen Mitsu BOV leaks at 12-14 psi (you could set your boost control to 30psi in a 2nd Gen Eclipse and your TB would still only see 12-14 no matter). Were as, the 1st Gen Mitsu BOV would not leak until 18-20 psi (crushed).

Just was wondering which BOV is preferred.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite! SAFE FOR DAILY DR

To prevent the above from happening, upgrade your fuel system. I think the blue box is reliable at the stock boost level of 5 psi or so. You can raise the boost a little but then you are taking a risk. My engine has survived the past year and nearly 20,000 miles now. I have run UPTO 8 psi, but I have also heard detonation too. Until I can find a way to run bigger injectors, the boost is staying down for now.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite! SAFE FOR DAILY DR

Sometimes it runs fine at 8 psi, sometimes it may start to detonate around 7500-8000 rpm. I'm in the northeast and when it gets cold out, forget it. I have to leave the boost controller off or else it breaks up at even 6 psi. I've heard that if you move the intake air temperature sensor into the charge pipe (after the intercooler, before the throttle body) that the engine should run better. After a descent run, you can really feel a difference between the intake tube on the turbo, and the charge pipe after the intercooler so I would believe it.

But running 8 psi with the intercooler seems to have alot to do with the weather. It seemed alright this summer, but its starting to cool off up here and I think its time to turn the boost down. I'm thinking about trying the new SMC and pick up some 450 cc injectors off a DSM this winter. In the mean time I'm gonna take it easy cuz I really did beat the heck out of the motor this past year.

Here's the scenario that happened when I blew the pistons.
91octane
45 degrees out

I've been beating on the motor and I guess it was payback!!

I didn't hear detonation cause I was in the "ZonE Yo" It could've spiked but I was paying attention to that damn typeR that just got a 1.5 car head start.

Anyways. I've picked up a few more parts now. I'm going to try the GSR cams and some stiffer valve springs(HondaSaver.com) I installed the oil cooler and JG manifold. Hopefully I can get this thing strapped on to a dyno and get some #'s!!! Also.. working on traction. Kaaz LSD and z10's will be on next week

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

Take your time with the install. When we installed mine we left some of the hose clamps loose and didn't tighten the oil feed line too well to the turbo. That is what you get from going at 3:00pm to 4:30 AM. So take your time and walk through the install steps after everything is set and installed. But Cristos' directions on turbocivicsi.com work really well. Keep in mind if you have the OEM Fogs there is some trimming issues that GReddy doesn't tell you about.

Lucky I have a complete set up power / non-power tools.. I think the worst doing the GSR last week was the damn pin locking the shift linkage in. Holy crap! You need the exact punch to get that damn thing out of there.. Second was dropping the half shafts. We found that taking both side out instead of only the passenger side and rotation the motor worked much quicker so I think the Si will go a bit ez'r then the Teg. Thank GOD! Will be doing the work this weekend.. I think I may do a Friday thru Sunday install or wait until the next weekend. Want to have the Flywheel resurfaced and crap before pushing it all back together.. Was also thinking about LSD while the tranny is on the bench but you know, for a daily driver, non-race car under 5-7 psi, I think it would be overkill! The Talon is the race car and has welded center diff.

My cousin who's a turbo freak said that no shaving should be required of the block when installing the turbo. As it has been written on turbocivicsi.com a part of the block where the label B16A2 is written needs to be shaved to fit the 90 degree intake pipe.

Pretty much we're keepin a small gap between the 90 degree intake pip and the turbo intake and using that gap to somewhat reroute the pipe a little.

Imagine if you feel if you melted your motor, went back to honda after removing your turbo and cried. All they'd do is laugh at your face because there is a part of the block shaved where it used to save B16A2 now probably would say, B16A...

i will have around 4500-5000 grand come spring and i am looking into a reliable form of forced induction. suspension and tires are taken care of. what will i need to go along with the greddy kit. i was thinking of hondata s200 with 550 injectors. will i have enough to do a mild building of the block. i also have an exhaust. how much am i looking at to get started with everything i need. thanks for your time.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

$5000 should be able to get you the kit, intercooler, BOV, clutch, and the basic hondata setup. Maybe 1 or 2 gauges depending on what brand you get, new/used, etc. If you get the hondata in there and tuned you should be all set for 8 psi. Other things to consider are a boost controller ($50-$550) and a turbo timer (most are around $100).

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

8 psi tuned with a Hondata should get around 220 whp, give or take. That should plenty to get you into the mid 13's. I went 13.8 with the blue box at 8 psi, still running the stock cat and Kumho 712 tires.

Another one bites the dust.......but I'm not surprised. After 20,000 miles of abuse, I finally lost a couple of rings. Just for the record (and all the blue box haters out there) I did beat on the car pretty hard for the last year. I had the boost controller set at 8 psi for a good part of the time, but the engine has seen around 10 or 11 when the boost controller would spike. So it probably wasn't a matter of IF, but WHEN and that when was last week. Here are a couple of pics and some more details.

Running the Greddy TD05-18g setup on a b16a2.
Engine:
-b16a2 with JE 9:1 pistons
-Eagle Rods
-ARP Head Studs
-Greddy E-Manage Fuel Management System
-370 CC RC Injectors (soon to be 440's)
-NGK Spark Plugs
-ACT Extreme Clutch with Street Strip Disc
Misc.
-Greddy Oil Catch Can
-Greddy Turbo Timer
-Greddy Profec B Boost Controller
-Autometer Comp Air/Fuel Gauge
-Autometer Comp Boost Gauge
-Si Gauge Pod
-Greddy Type 31 Front Mount Intercooler
-HKS SS BOV

Results:
Was on a friends car and with decent tuning it was tuned to 12 psi=245 hp....nothing spectaluar but found a guy that tunes the E-Manage all day long and he said with 440's we can pump out over 300 to the wheels on 12-13 psi. Going to try and tune it too like 250 daily driven. Haven't been able to get it to the track yet but when I do I will post up dyno sheets, and time slips.

What does boosting in fifth do to the turbo??? Is it just because it keeps spooling and never drops back down or what?

TurboSi@RPI
(Post Master)
12/03/02 11:20 AM
Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

It does nothing to the turbo. Its the engine that can't take it. You can boost in 5th but not for an extended period of time (top speed run) because it causes really high cylinder pressure and temperature. The stock pistons were designed to handle so much and they start to give up under that kind of stress.

Dual 3 inch pipes will be way too big. All you need is one 3 inch pipe back and you can split it at the end if you want to do a dual setup (which is what I think you mean).

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

195/50's Pirelli 700z(20psi) on stock rims

I launched at 3500 (6psi) and feather a litte, then switched to 10 psi in 2nd.

I have the Z10 arms. improved my 60's by 2 tenths. No wheel hop, just wheel spin. The tires were loosing traction everytime around 7k in 1st. 2nd gear...well... you know

TurboSi@RPI
(Post Master)
12/09/02 01:09 PM
Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

So the Z10's knocked you down 2 tenths from 2.5? What I wouldn't give for a 2.10 sixty-foot. I launch at 3000 and just dump the cluth right after the second yellow comes on and floor it. I cut a consistent 2.25 - 2.30 sixty foot. Any hotter and I'll get some pretty bad wheel hop and the tires just won't stop spinning. Any lower and the car will just bog on the line.

So i went to the Dyno today and got 173power and 139 tq. Not to bad for 5.5-6psi ( stock) for a 18G greddy turbo kit. The only problem that i had was that i had a lil detention from 7k-8k Rpm. I think that i will use racing fuel ( about a gallon) to fix that problem. Im happy for the most part. next is a boost controller to get it to about 8psi as a daily driver.

the only problem that i have is that im still getting engine light Code 45. not sure how to get rid of that. but im still happy for the most part. I think that im still running rich, but hope to fix that with the boost controller. Burn more fuel, should help. Well g2g, lata

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

There really is no need to use the hack on injectors smaller than 310 cc. The ECU has a tolerance of +- 30% of stock (240) which is 310. If you use the hack then the car will run too lean thats why you need to run larger injectors with the hack.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

I'm finally joining the Greddy group! Everything has been ordered and will be installed after the new year. My setup will include:

Greddy Kit w/ large IC
manual boost controller (7-8 psi depending on tuning)
SMC w/ DSM 450s (Diablo tells me I'm getting the 2003 version w/ 8 RPM ranges!!) -- screw the blue box and 310's - not even going to bother. Anyone need a brand new set?? :-)
2.5" test pipe
Blitz DD BOV
ACT HDSS clutch
Autometer A/F and Boost guages
Apex'i Turbo Timer
NGK 7s and magnecores
CTR cams w/ gears -- hope the cams work w/ the turbo after tuning, or else back to stockers. Anyone have any experience w/ this?

I'm out of town for the holidays, hence the delay on installing everything. I'll post dyno number after tuning.

I'm still running the shitty blue box. To run more boost all I need is bigger injectors and a standalone. I plan to get 440cc injectors and hondata. I'm sure with that setup I can run 1bar and put out about 300whp. With the setup now my car runs extremely rich at low rpms due to the blue box. Right now I'm dealing with drivetrain problems so I can't afford to make that move yet.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

If you are running 10 psi on just the blue box, be careful because of all the guys here that have blown (including myself) turned up the boost. The blue box is by no means shitty. It does its job and does so quite well. Have you ever ridden in a car that uses a FMU and missing link setup? The blue box is much more responsive and feels better than other setups I've seen.

Have you dynoed the car yet? I wish I got mine on the dyno just to see what kind of power I was making and what the A/F looked like before I killed a couple of rings.

I'll get the fuel/timing/cam gears tuned in 2 weeks after breaking in the clutch and turbo.

Special thanks to EG for shipping me the SMC early! I would have hated sticking in the blue box in order to drive the car to work next week only to redo all the work... A VERY special thanks to my friends B and Jason for all their help this weekend. You guys rock!

Just went to the Dyno this weekend. I've been running the Greddy kit for about a year now, daily driven.

Mods are as follows:

-Greddy turbo kit running about 7.5psi (still on the blue box)
-Greddy type24 fmic
-blitz bov
-Greddy Profec B
-Greddy T.Timer
-Greddy Evo cat-back
-J&S Ultra Safeguard
-ACT HD clutch

First Run:
-Max POWER=219.9
-Max TORQUE=166.8

Second Run:
-Max POWER=220.9
-Max TORQUE=164.0

Third Run:
-Max POWER=220.6
-Max TORQUE=165.7

Air/fuel averaged around the 11.5:1 range, and was very smooth. When I get a scanner, I'll post the chart.

The guy's name is Charles Campbell and he has responded to my emails right away. So far, the attention he gives has been great! He seems to have a lot of people that vouch for him as well. I will be ordering my Greddy Profec B from him this week for 290 SHIPPED. This is the best price I have ever seen in my whole life! We'll see how it goes. I am planning on getting my intercooler and other stuff from him if all goes well. Great job with the link! You beat me to it!

I found another inquiry i been thinking about also from doing some research. I wondering about a thicker head gasket also until i can get some internal work done. Any manufactures that could be recommended would be great and does this guy stock any also, thanks

So, I'm super pleased with my dyno results:

230+hp / 160 tq @ 7psi!

There may be room for a bit more as I may advance spark to 10 deg and lean out my curve from 6-7K.

blacksiguy.. nice #'s

Welp i had a terrible accident woith my motor a few weeks back so i haven't been posting for awhile. popped a oil feed line on the hiway and by the time i figured it out it was too late. spun a bearing. Kinda made me depressed since i only put on 5000 miles fro my rebuild last march. So right now its getting sleeved and the head is being completed. I also swapped outthe greddy with a t3/t4 setup. Just hope it all gets done soon so i can tune it and run some great times... damn this money pit is getting deeper!!! had to let it off mah chest.. sorry for the rant!!!

Had the problem 4 times now. I went out and bought (-4) hose and new fittings. At the bango bolt put a 45 degree fitting. putting this 45 on it helpes so the bend is not so great. i also ran the oil line around the tranny side of the car . You will need about 3.5 feet of hose. let me know if you need something else.

Well i got to the dyno and they relized my boost controller is shot to shit. So i couldn't up the boost to the 9psi that i wanted, so they went ahead and tuned it for now (since i live 3 hours away). I have the greddy turbo kit with some extras and was only running 4psi he said and would creap toward 5 right at 8k but never reach it or there long enough to make a diff. So at 4psi i put down 198.3whp 148.6tq, I was pretty damn happy with those numbers at only 4psi. I am going to be heading back up there in a few weeks with 9psi and a new boost controller and high flow cat I will be shooting for 250whp. Here are the charts. Also as a side note it was 91 deg. there and 97 deg. heat index and in a garage with no a/c so im sure she was running a little warm

Well we got my buddies Si goin good with a greddy T-kit. It wasn't boosting for shit and running like piss for awhile. We finally did everything we could to make it run better, but it didnt. After weeks of trying different stuff and tuning, we remembered it had a 70k stock cat on it, and we thought what the shit we did everything else.................BAM!!!!! we found the problem. Took the cat off and the summabitch flew. Alittle more tuning and it was rippin tire into 3rd. Man we burried the needle in no time.....BAM!!! 140mph...hhahahaa

Anywayz i was wondering whats the most HP out of a Greddy Kit anyone has seen?? this car has a built bottom end and right now its not even dyno tuned and at 11psi its nuts!! So any rough ideas or actual numbers on the kit,

If your getting the GReddy kit, the blue box will come with it. All it is is a piggy back fuel system for your car to compensate for the boost. Do a lil searching and you'll find all the information you need.

Nice car. I have some newb questions cause i know NOTHING about Turbo. Im getting the 18G kit in June, and need to know a few things.

1) Where does the FMU go in the car. I mean is it a computer or just a little box. Im guess its kinda like a piggy back system?
2) What exactly is the downpipe? and whats a test pipe?
3) Is there any performance difference with the Type 24 / 31 ic? Only running @5-6PSI, then maybe higher later?
4) Is the Blue Box set at one setting or can you adjust it at all??
With the Hondata FMU can i do the tuning myself?

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

I hear people saying that they are running rich at low boost. And that the blue box makes you run rich. How can you adjust that not to run rich? tuning? and also, fuel injectors. Is it fine to just get bigger injectors to start with? Im thinking that the FMU is only going to use a certain amount of fuel anyways correct? im new at this. thanks.

Check the sig. for pics. As for fuel, the blue box will do fine for the set boost, any higher and you can toast some pistons. Save up for a EMS, like hondata or AEM. This will definatley be the best way to go to cure fuel probs. Also, use the search button. It has helped me alot to figure out my setup

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

when u get your kit do not install it until you get proper fuel management the blue box no matter what any one says does not really cut it, invest in the hondata s200 system because as every one knows the si isnt really that fast on 6psi u WILL want to crank it up i would recamend bigger injectors im going with 550's soon because my duity cycle is maxing out at even 8psi, but make sure you get colder plugs (ngk brk7e) some msd wires, your blow off valve, definitely get a intercooler no matter what you do
get a fuel pressure guage, better fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator and a diecent boost controller, even with hondata i still wouldnt recamend running more than 7psi on stock internals hell i fried the crap out of mine at 6 although the greddy kit is a fairly complete kit most definitely everything you need is NOT included but hats off to greddy for a badass spooling turbo i dont get any lag at all at 10psi hope this helped also if im wrong about anything please some one correct me, later mike ^_^

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

Howdy guys... i am ready to purchase a Greddy kit, it seems the nicest alternative to a lot of money. Nothing like a lisenced dealer, eh? After about six months of research, i have come to terms with my fiscal limitations, and what is available.

I plan on never touching anything inside the motor. I am going to pick up the Greddy system (intercooled is the aim, will the intake temps be too hot to drive it without the intercooler??) and slap it on.

I would like to run the stock Greddy unit untill i can afford putting all the engine manegement and fuel breathing devices on the car and pay modacar or the latter to dyno tune it. But that is just me hoping for upwards of 200whp.

Realisticly, i will be driving around with the stock Greddy kit, and i seem to be very happy about it As far as the breathing of the ass of the car, my aim is to purchase the rear section of an exhaust, then do the custom piping from the cat back, and i can make my own cat replacement.

I'm planning on taking off the stock piping into the stock muffler, and welding on the straight 3" or 2.5" (whichever i end with, and i also heard once that the stock exhaust is 2.5, just poorly routed. That seems awful big for such a low displacement engine.) to the muffler itself, then adding a flange. Is the resonance chamber where the acceptor is large enough to support a 3" inlet? a 2.5" one?

This will allow me a lot of flexibility for smogging the vehicle, as well as keeping the noise down. I like the idea of changing out my 'entire' exhaust, as opposed to a baffle. That and the stock exhaust would be less restrictive with 3" piping or the like.

I think that sums up everything, there are a lot of indirect and implied questions, feel free to read the post a few times and let me know what up

Thanks guys, and happy boostin, eh?

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

I'm assuming from reading your post that you live in cali? (modacar is in cali, right?). Running a turbo without an IC is not really a good idea in the first place much less in a place that gets as hot as it does there. I understand going turbo can be expensive, but save your money up a little bit and do it right. Remember you will probably end up needing supporting mods on top of the kit such as a clutch, etc. Basically, save up for the IC and drive it nice until you can put some real management on it like hondata/uberdata/aem/etc.

As far as an exhaust system goes, a true mandrel bent catback system is definitely a good investment. You can pick up 30+whp simply by putting on a good exhaust system instead of the stock crap.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

Yes indeed i do live in California. I suppose the IC deal was just me being cheap, i have no problem waiting for the extra five or seven hundred dollars. But as far as the exhaust goes, the idea is that i will have a full 3" mandral bent exhaust, with a nice large canister on the end, but it will be attached behind or in front of the axel (wichever i can mount it better on and still be able to remove it easily) so that i can switch between the stock muffler (with the 3" into the muffler, or if all else fails, 3"-stock collector) for a large difference in asthetics, which I think will be miniscule next to the sound deadning... thanks again, i like feedback

It looks like it can be mated with a t3/t4 turbo but just wanted to know if they line up? If they do please let me know, also anyone out there planning to upgrade their turbo? What would you go for?

I figured out my own question. You could just have an extra charge pipe without BOV and swap that in easily. The same would go for the IC. Just take that out and run the stock pipe from turbo to charge pipe. This sound good?

Greddy People, just have a quick question.

I'm going to be running a greddy turbo on a b16 in an EG hatch. I was thinking of getting the SP2 exhaust. If I'm running at stock boost levels, is a 2.25" piping for an exhaust too restrictive for a greddy turbo setup? Thanks for your help.

Im contemplating whether to go with the Greddy 18G or the Stage 1 kit from my local South Fla Performance. Cant go wrong with them from reputation alone. Give me some suggestions guys.

quick question for you GReddy guys....how much boost can you run befoer you recommend sleeving your block? because the shop i use say they would have to pull my block and ship it to get sleeved, but they can do rids and pistons there...so what do you guys think? would forged 9.5:1 or 9:1 pistons with forged rods be enough to run stock to 10 psi safely???

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

Hey there, I just bought a 2000 Si 2 weeks ago and am already looking to enter the boost world. My friend has a greddy/revhard kit for sale that includes the following:

Greddy TD04-19T turbocharger
Greddy cast manifold
oil lines
Hose clamps
Revhard downpipe
Greddy Air Intake
Revhard Intercooler (5in thick)
Intercooler piping
Greddy BOV
Turbonetics Wastegate
All necessary hardware, i.e. pipe insulation, heat shield, hoses
Vortech FMU
gauges

I dont plan on running anything more then 5-6 psi for a little as I want to save up so I can upgrade to a better FMU. My questions are, with everything listed, will I need anything else to get going? And when I do decide to upgrade (2-3 months), do you guys have any suggestions on what exactly I do ex. AEM EMS? What else would I need besides that? Also I realize I will need a new clutch if I am to get this kit, what are your suggestions there if Im only runnin 6psi max? And is it ok if I just use the flywheel that I have or does it have to get resurfaced? If it doesnt how long will it last? Well thats all, sorry for all the questions, Im just looking to get as much info from you guys as possible, cause I kno most of you know your shit when it comes to boostin

You need a BOV for any turbo system.
The only modification you need to make is the have the BOV flange welded on to the return piping that goes from the intercooler to the intake manifold.

I've been searching for a downpipe upgrade for the 18G for quite sometime now. And it has been drawn to my attention that there is no way to upgrade from the 2" Greddy elbow and retain A/C. I needed to retain my AC so in the end, this was my only choise. 2.5" Flared to 3" Stainless downpipe with flex, I had this made with an extra o2 bung for a wideband o2 sensor. I will post pics again after I get my Kteller 3" exhaust. Oh yea, custom made @ spoolin performance

Mines a 2.5". No issues bolting up to dp at all, however; I did take it to a shop to get it put on, because they had to weld my flange on the end for my cat to bolt up to. The only thing they had a issue was having to extend the wire for the o2 sensor to reach so it could plug into. I think the way it was made it had a slight angle on it so the wires needed to be longer.
So, other than that the no fitment issues at all fitting right up to the elbow bolt pattern. If yours is 3" it might be different. I do know its a tight fit between mine and my oil return line.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

I'm running 8psi (with manual boost controller), type 24 intercooler, apexi bov, civic type r intake cam (I already had in the motor before the turbo), 310 injectors, 11lbs flywheel, exedy stage 1 clutch, greddy evo 2 cat back exhaust (stock cat still in place), and tuned in using e-manage. Results = 218 hp with 179 tq.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

how does that exedy clutch work out for you? no problems holding power with the stage 1?

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

So far the exedy stage 1 clutch is holding up. Driving it around is no problem. And if I floor it while in 1st gear (even when on a roll), and between 6800-7000rpm on 2nd gear, it will spin the tires off the ground. But sometimes when I floor it while in 1st gear, I have felt the clutch start to slip after vtec kicks in. So I try to resist the temptation of doing this.

For those who are in CA and have this kit, any problems passing sniffer and visual? This is probably the only thing preventing me from going boost.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

The kit new come with 2 replacement manifold bolts that clear the hump of the 2 center manifold runners. I bought a used kit that didn't come with them. I went to the hardware store and found a flanged head M8x1.25 bolt and purchased a 20mm one. The stock bolt is 24mm. That didn't fit so I purchased a 16mm. That fit in, but wasn't long enough to engage the threads in the head. So now what? What have other people done? I have an email in to Greddy but I'm not expecting much help from them.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

YAY!! I will be joining this thread this weekend.. I ordered a Greddy kit with type 24 and upgraded to some 450cc injectors.. Now just gotta save up for the Hondata and ditch the blue box junk.. What is the safest amount of boost to run on stock internals with this kit? I had a Drag kit on prior to this and blew my motor at 10 psi.. Was hoping to run at least 9 psi with this since it is a smaller turbo with not as much power.. This time I got a good tuner also ..

the COMPRESSOR is pretty close to the block. you were supposed to use the little intake pipe to hook up to the inlet with the coupler that is supplied with the kit. shouldn't be a problem at all. thinner fan is an option but you can do it without it.

Go to Autozone/Napa/Advanced and get a slim fan. Flows better and looks alot cleaner while giving you plenty of extra room.

I think I'm going to just buy a slim fan at Auto Zone or something.

But in regards to the compressori can't even get the coupler in there but we are going to try again today. I'm goin to take some pics and show you guys.

Do you guy have any pics of your turbo setups

Re: Greddy turbo owners unite!

thats prolly cause your running a GSR manifold on the b16. You will have to cut out that little corner on the tranny and then you can slide your filter on.

forgot to take pics. actually i thought of it but i didn't want to keep a record that i had a greddy kit. owned a lot with it but still, it's a greddy kit. but definitely put up some pics. something sounds wrong. btw, i have mini fans on the other side of the radiator and condensing unit (closer to front of car) . tons more space.
