How lame is it? |

Political thing. My view is that aside from being good at what you do at work, you still have to show up to these social things to move up or be not noticed negatively. My drill is to show up, social, wait for the freebies draws to end, stay for 1 more drink and say my goodbyes. Going also means there is something to talk about aside from why you were not there. |

^ +1 I always go, it's an opportunity to mingle. They are usually fun too. |

Are you guys getting served alcohol? How do you guys behave at these functions? I've worked in many industries and usually the ones in Health Care I find where people are the most relax. Slutty behaving women at work, oh yeah. |

Open bar with taxi chits. I usually have 2 or 3 for the duration of the night. Open bar or not, work functions aren't the places to get shit faced. |

Previous job, they gave us a hotel room in Niagara Falls, buffet, open bar. + partner. Current job, Mandarin right after work. Weekday, wasn't clear we were allow to have alcohol. The owners of the company were having beer. |

We've had alcohol, the first time i went to one of these functions I got tanked (about a dozen beers to myself). It was alright though, i still functioned and walked around normal, but I did say some fucked up shit. |

we get a xmas lunch.. and then get to leave right after. |
Job 1- nice lunch no booze then back to the office. Job 2 - in January we go somewhere. Last year was Medieval Times dinner and tournament. Year before was mysteriously yours dinner theatre. No booze paid for by the company. Company reimburses 1 in 4 people for parking. You're supposed to carpool. |

our company is too small |

No Xmas party for us. |

The Regency Ballroom at the Four Seasons in Yorkville is always reserved for our company on the last Friday in November every year. The food is always great and the open bar isn't too shabby either. The company provides taxis chits for everyone. The strict policy is employees only, no spouses or significant others. There have been occasions where people get a little too friendly with one another, if you know what I mean, but I'll just leave it at that. To compensate, our company also has a second Christmas party every year at the Liberty Grand. This one is basically invite anyone and everyone you know. Its more of a family focused event that takes place during the day on the weekend. There are lots of activities and games for children. Everyone says it is a ton of fun. I think I might attend that one this year. As for main Christmas party, I always go as others have stated it is a great opportunity to mingle and socialize with others. People notice who goes and who doesn't. And unless you act like an asshat, whats the worse that can happen, you're incredibly bored? |

i always go to these work function/events even i don't want to go this year we are going to The Kegs for x'mas dinner. Meal is paid for but not the booze. Last 2 years we did it at the Woodbine Racetrack on a Wednesday night during a horse races. It was pretty cool |

I don't go We have to pay (-1) it's in burlington (-1) cash bar after your initial 2 drink tickets (-1) The people I want face time with are in Calgary so I don't have to go for political reasons. The ppl on my team don't go and they are ppl at work that I like. We would also have a team lunch during the week and I'd definitely go to that. |
mine are pretty lame since my boss' are fucking cheap assholes...I only go because it looks good showing up. They won't even pay for wives or gf's for all the workers. |

I've never worked at a place where you can bring your significant other. |

I've only gone twice in 11 years, there's no social or professional pressure to go. We usually do a team lunch as well. The big party is probably not going to happen this year anyways. They canceled last year's too. |

The company-wide one where we have to buy tickets to attend: no There *used* to be a division-wide one(???) -- that went from open bar + taxi chits to 2 drink tickets ... i'll go if it's during office hours, otherwise forget it -- my excuse: gotta bail on time to pick up my kid. :P The one paid for by the company that's looking after our IT infrastructure: hell yes -- great excuse to leave early from work, there are supposed to be 2 drink tickets, but if you bump into the upper suits they can snag you a few more. |

we gotta pay 80 bux a ticket to go to mine. and its like in barrie. wtf. no thanks. |

Yeah I'm going. I usually go to most work functions. Good for visibility and to "show you're part of the team". |
I guess it really depends on what kind of job you do |
I usually go to work functions - get tanked - take my boss's money in pool. It's all good. But when the entire company is out, i scale it down, but i still get tanked. That being said, not going this year, because my last official day of work is this friday ...whatsup? ! |

We're allowed to invite a guest (spouse or SO), but the wife can't come as she has to stay with baby for feeding. Dinner and booze (although, it might be limited to drink tickets...not sure), but it's on a harbour cruise (in December...???). So, it starts at 7:00pm and docks back at midnight...meaning I can't leave before then. |

We can't even get drunk at our Christmas party because our boss' have the parties during the week, the next day we're expected to be at work for 7am, and as soon as were done taking our last bite of our dinner, they ask for the bill, pay it, and bolt right out of there. |

I wouldnt go even if the bank paid for it (which they dont) we actually have to contribute to our fucking xmas lunch which is total bs. The bank is so goddamn cheap, they wont even buy us lunch for xmas! Besides fuck xmas.. |

I just got the invite to my work holiday party, it's in February and hosted at a coworkers house. We have 57 employees. We went from Mysteriously Yours dinner theatre first year I was here, to Medieval Times last year, to a house party. Having nothing would be of a slap in the face, considering we all pay into a fund each pay to fund this event. |

I bought a new pair of brown shoes for the party...doing it up y0 |
