iPhone Data Leak

For the last few months (shortly after she upgraded to an iPhone) my wife has been going over her 6GB data plan (10Gb, 14GB, 16GB). She mainly uses it for Facebook and emails. The odd time she'll use the browser to look up something specific, but for the most part she's at work all day and uses her work computer.

The kids will use it for Youtube, but even then the phone is with my wife all day. Some weeknight and weekend YouTubing shouldn't rack up to 10+GB.

Rogers indicated that there have been reports of a data leak on some iPhones and that we should take it to the Apple store for an analysis. If they can prove it did have this issue, then Rogers will reverse the charges.

So I tell my wife to go by the Apple Store last week while I was out of town but she didn't get a chance to go. What she did do though was install the latest iOS update. So now I'm thinking even if it did have a problem, Apple won't detect it (that's assuming that it was fixed with the recent update) and I won't get refunded the $300 in overage charges.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Re: iPhone Data Leak

Youtube, Netflix, Instagram vids any streaming at all uses a ton of data. Low signal strength and/or trying to find a 3G/LTE signal uses more data I was told too.

My wife and I are on a shared plan and Ive crushed our data a few times lol.

Wat dat pornhub do

Re: iPhone Data Leak

She doesn't use (or have installed) Twitter, Netflix, Instagram etc. The only thing that would contribute is YouTube, but even then its the kids that use it and even then its only in the evenings and weekends.

Re: iPhone Data Leak

does the phone give you a breakdown of the apps that have used x % of the data?

i know android phones do this

is the phone not connected to wifi when browsing youtube at home?

Re: iPhone Data Leak

i would still go to the apple store and ask if this can still be traced even after updating the software.

get an email from someone at apple (they are usually nice that way), call rogers retention, and send the email, argue until you get your money back.

Re: iPhone Data Leak

From dealing with our corporate account we have found that's Rogers systems are so outdated it's easier for them to refund or cancel the charges than it is for them to prove you actually used that much data. Ask them for proof and see what happens

Re: iPhone Data Leak

The My Rogers app is pretty accurate for monitoring your data....

When it works.

The first month we had this shared plan, I went over by 3gigs I think. The app didnt work at all that month, so I bitched at Rogers and they only charged me for the normal 10.

The kids are prob on Youtube or whatever, but using data instead of wifi when they are home.

Re: iPhone Data Leak

yeah make sure that shit is connecting to wifi

there's a possibility you could have legitimately gone over.. it's not hard with a couple hours of youtube, esp high quality

call rogers and argue for it anyway, per Dumbass's reccomendation
