i'm all for harsher fines specifically for distracted/text'ing while driving! (cash grab or not). is it a bit much in dollar value? yes. but at this point it's no choice option i think.
educating drivers early is truly the BEST way but our useless Gov would rather just collect the dollars, as usual. so many cars have options for handling calls/texts now, even base models...if not just buy some cheapo aftermarket crap.
the stuff i see go on is insane these days. i literally have been next to usually female drivers SHOUTING at my window "LOOK AT MEEEE" as i drive 6" from the side of their car.......nothing, no reaction.
but really they need a huge fine for "being a fuckin' shitty dumbass driver just in general" because i see many drivers falling into this category.
it's the bullshit 50-over they need to nix.

seriously. some of them drive those trucks insanely.
with more tech in cars it's almost as bad as just looking at your phone. new tlx has the android auto but when you factor in the lane keep and radar cruise and you have to do nothing to drive then you start to fiddle with settings on the android auto screen, or fiddle with this or that because you know, car will drive itself.
and maybe with these extra fines you'd imagine they could put some more money into fixing some roads up.

I don't think the problem is talking on the phone as it is texting, reading texts, configuring gps and looking for music to play. All of which I don't do so I'm actually okay with this. Do I think it's a cash grab. Totally. But so is everything else so fuck it. Too many dumb laws and dumb fines for everything these days.

Just to clarify, it's a $615 on the roadside ticket. It's $1000 if you're issued a summons instead, or fight the $615 and lose in court. Either one of those will result in conviction which means 3 points, and 3 days suspension of license. That's for a FIRST conviction. Gov't ain't messing around. That's hefty.
