Mice

Had the MDX in for service and they found a small mouse nest in the cabin air filter. First Ive even had this happen on any car Ive had. Any tips to prevent this? No idea why/how they got in either.

Re: Mice

I have a couple of these guys running around my backyard. In the winter, they come into the garage and like to hang out in my engine bay to stay warm - these guys relocate my fertilizer from the shelf to the engine bay... fuckers.

I've laid 2 traps in my garage and bait them with chocolate.

I catch about one a month. The idea was to keep them alive and then let them go in a nearby park but... I always forget and they starve to death \:\(

Re: Mice

Funny you bring up mice. We noticed mouse droppings in our house the other day Needless to say my wife wants to either throw everything out, burn it all or both. She's also afraid and disgusted to go in the house. Ok obviously its not a good thing to have, but I'm not overly phased by it. More people have mice scurrying around, they're just not aware of it. In any event I bought some traps and baited them with some cheese, however I hear peanut butter works well. Is there anything else really to do? The droppings were found under the kitchen cabinets by the sink. Should I look to board-up and seal up any openings?

Re: Mice

Peanut butter works really well too - I built one of these

Messed up somehow and the mice at all the peanut butter but all I got in return was a bucket of shit... craftly little bitches.........

If they're in the house, I'd probably call an exterminator.

These work so fucking well. I had some mice in my garage, made two of these and caught 5 overnight. Haven't had any since. (and I keep the two buckets out there with RV antifreeze in the bottom)

Re: Mice

Snap traps never let me down.

If they're getting in the house, you have to find the opening(s) and seal them up.

Re: Mice

I agree, but my wife (and others) seem to think things like this are the problem (not my pic). Sealing this up won't stop them from coming into the house, they're already in the house.

Re: Mice

+1 for snap traps. in the old house right before we moved out they were getting into the cold storage, eating the labels off of cans. caught a few with the snap traps, then said fuck it let the new owners deal with it lol

You gotta catch the ones that are in, yes. But at least you stop new ones from getting in. And FWIW, when I dealt with them they would come and go, not stay in the house the whole time. So sealing their access helped that way too.

Re: Mice

I bet many people have had mice in their walls/ceiling and don't even know it. When doing renos and opening up stuff its amazing how much mice droppings you find \:\)

Re: Mice

Left a bag of grass seeds (double bagged) in the garage over the winter and saw some mouse poo near it.

Took the food source away and washed the garage floor with some bleach - haven't had a problem since.

I cover the intake vent and exhaust on the S when storing, no holes in the bags when I take it out in the spring so I hope no critters are in my car.

They probably got in every time you open the garage door and didn't realize it. Plus there's always a small gap even when closed - these guys are pretty flexible and can fit through anything.

just removed food sources and sprayed peppermint in area where they might come through.

will set poison traps when it gets colder when they look for warm places to live.

Re: Mice

I went to Home Depot on Monday to get some traps. Even before you enter the building, in between the two sets of automatic doors they had a big display for mice. I guess its the season where they're looking for warmer environments at night. Either that or they're aware of an issue in the area lol

Yup, it's fucking disgusting to be honest, lol.

I like snap traps, I just hate setting them.

Re: Mice

I had one mouse in the house.. set about 15 snap traps, behind appliances, in the basement, back of cabinets... then tossed peppermint soaked cotton balls all over the damn place, filled all holes with steel wool, and set the buckets up in the garage. The war was on. Caught the one in the house, and a few in the garage. Haven't had an issue since. (knock on wood)
