Upgrading to an Asus RT-AC3100 from Rogers modem + router provided a significant improvement to wifi speeds. I didn't even realize I was bottlenecked until I installed the router.

Also had range issues with a 2.4Ghz client that streams 24/7 (2 walls, brick, and whatever the fuck else.)

The (new) Asus routers have a real sweet webUI and app, and provides good intel on what's going in real-time. I can see which clients is polling/downloading/uploading, which are connected, which are stale, etc.

If I pick up the GT-AC5300, I can mesh them together, or just use the GT-AC5300. It's tri-band, i.e. it's got 2 5Ghz channels -- won't help me per se re: my range issue with the 2.4Ghz client directly, but I COULD pair it up with an older Asus repeater which receives on 2.4Ghz, then send (to the router) via 5Ghz, thereby giving any 2.4Ghz 24/7 streaming clients a band of their own.

IIRC the GT-AC5300 also has 8 lan jacks, which means I can get rid of my 4-port network hub.

A little win, but I picked up copies of Reflector 3 and Air Parrot 2 (software) for < $10USD each.

Reflector 3 sets up my notebook (macbook or PC) as an AirPlay & Chromecast 'server' so iPhones/Android devices can cast to it . (i.e. screenshare, great for work.)

Air Parrot 2 sets up my notebook (macbook or PC) to be able to cast to AirPlay/Chromecast devices. (Sure there's a handful of FREE ways to do it on a MBP, but this is all encompassing, and cheap.)

Also picked up some copies for the team @ work.

I find that alot of stuff are marked up before they mark it down so it looks like 50% off but it's really like 20-25% off
