https://www.narcity.com/g00/ca/on/toront...o-curb-speeding https://torontosun.com/news/local-news/photo-radar-makes-comeback-this-year Quote: Throughout this year though, if you are a Toronto driver, you'll notice photo radar cameras a lot more frequently considering the city is planning to install cameras in more than 700 locations as part of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE). The expansion is in correlation with last year's creation of 754 Community Safety Zones around schools. The cameras are reportedly going to be installed predominantly in Community Safety Zones, meaning around schools other neighbourhoods that have reduced speed limits. What this means is that if a camera does catch you speeding, not only are you getting a ticket, but the fine is automatically doubled due to speeding in a safety zone. Quote: Fines could range from $21 for going one km/h over the posted speed limit to $1,105-plus for 50 km/h or more. Cost of Speed in Community Safety Zones 15 km/h over speed limit: $115, 0 demerit points 20 km/h over speed limit: $220, 3 demerit points 30 km/h over speed limit: $520, 3 demerit points 35 km/h over speed limit: $605, 4 demerit points 50 km/h over speed limit: $1,105, 6 demerit points FYI: No demerit points if caught by photo radar, ticket paid (Source: Ontario Ministry of Transportation, Highway Traffic Act) |

more reasons to avoid toronto altogether and that's fine with me. |

this is so fucking retarded. |

I have no problem with it being used in school zones, during school hours. If it's 24/7, then... Originally Posted By: Screamin Type ARGH! this is so fucking retarded. |

I'm sure they'll all be up on Waze in no time, lol. |

I was looking at Waze on my way to work this morning and it does show red light cameras at intersections (at least the ones I know of). Is there a way to get an audio notification for them specifically? |
Yes Waze will say "Red light camera reported ahead". There are many cameras setup throughout the City already, but many of them don't work or are not activated. I remember hearing something about it being costly and the cameras within the boxes get moved from location to location. I wonder if thats the plan this time. 700 boxes seems like a lot. I wonder if the actual number of working/activated ones will be a lot less and this is more of a deterrent (ie scare tactic). |

FWIW, Waze doesn't have a specific alert for speed cameras. Suggestion is to use Police instead. Red light camera in the middle of a road, won't get people to slow down. |
so.. just know that in community safe zones, be extra careful. |

It does? everyone keeps telling me to use waze because it works with android auto but i remember using it back in the day and thought it didn't work very well, maybe it's changed since then. i'll admit tho, in the mornings when i'm taking the kid to school i deadass don't go above 40km/h and make sure i come to a full stop at stop signs. i piss off alot of people running late for work but idgaf. |

yea, iirc "red light camera reported ahead" |
Will try it out on my way home. There are 2 or 3 cameras I pass by on my route. |

Waze has audio alerts, you just have to set it up. Can't really use it to track 'moving' traps like these texting popo, but these photo radar, sure. I never could get into Google Maps, due to the lack of popo traps/photo radar notifications. Though it does have some things Waze doesn't; Google Maps tell you which lane to stay in, etc... |

I was clearly speaking with reference to red light cameras when the discussion is around photo radar. |

Re. the new distracted driver tix, buddy's friend from work got one...$650, midtown. he was adjusting his phone HOLDER on his upper/middle dash. not sure if he argued with cop......but yeah, this is where such a law become a bit ridiculous. i'm all for busting idiot distracted drivers...but there has to be a line drawn. |

Define 'mid-town'? Shiiiet ... Times like this, perhaps I should've spent more on a newer model vehicle that has Apple CarPlay built-in, so there's more steering wheel/dash interaction, less phone screen interaction I've switched to a phone holder that's 'lower', near the key/push-start area, which would still be a ticket if caught, but I'm touching it less now |

Are you an on call cardiac surgeon requiring to be accessible at all times that your texts can't wait 30 minutes? |

Quote: Toronto police have released the results of last week’s zero tolerance distracted driving campaign. Police say between Monday and Sunday, officers charged 670 drivers. During the week, police patrolled Toronto streets on foot, bicycles, unmarked police vehicles, pick up trucks, as well as on TTC buses and streetcars. https://toronto.citynews.ca/2019/01/22/toronto-distracted-driving-charges/ |

looks like it is this Dec. https://toronto.citynews.ca/2019/08/27/photo-radar-traffic-wardens-toronto/ - scarborough will have move cameras do to 'higher fatality rate' - ie. people can't drive for shit. the traffic warden thing should be fun to watch. fuck that job lol. red light cams are a fucking cash grab though, WOW. |

I'm sure all these 'distracted driver' tickets are saving lives What a fucking scam. Ok, now the chick doing makeup or txting barreling down the 401 I get. The guy adjusting his phone or even replying to a txt while STOPPED at a light? Fuck off |

who's going to be the first to moon the camera while someone speeds by? |

The cell phone ticket penalties are pretty rough, so I don't think your average person stopped at a red light touching their phone to adjust it will necessarily get the ticket. Like, how many cops ticket you for going 10 over? There's gonna be some discretion. At the same time, those guys on their phones at red lights still stopped 5 seconds after its turned green ... |

Caught this dude yesterday. Kept looking down at his phone So I kept honking every time he did it. He was getting so mad. Oh well. Pay attention |

I've noticed an abundance of people fully yacking away on their phone since i got back. like straight holding phones to their head having full out conversations while flying through don mills and sheppard during rush hour. cops need to book these people. |
