2006 civic si 0-60????????!!!!

So the 2006 Civic Si will come with a 2.0 197HP 6-speed right? Then why do they post the specs of 0-60 of 7.3!!!!!!????? I had an '03 Type-S and it had almost the exact same engine and weight but its 0-60 was estimated at a full second or more less?? I was thinking about getting the Si when it comes out, but after hearing that disappointing time I'm starting to re-think. Has anyone heard a different time?

Why are you basing your decision on buying a new car solely on it's 0-60 time

Re: 2006 civic si 0-60????????!!!!

I've seen mag specs of 0-60 for 6.7 seconds for the new si. Keep in mind that most of the guys testing the front wheel drive cars for the magazines can't seem to launch them for shit.

And I would guess (just guessing) that 2nd gear is only good til 50-53mph? Which would mean an extra shift which is 1/2-3/4 second depending on how effcient you shift.

Re: 2006 civic si 0-60????????!!!!

R&T says 56 mph at 8300 rpm for 2nd gear with an ultimate 0-60 of 6.8 seconds. The 1/4 finshed up for them at 15.1 seconds.

Re: 2006 civic si 0-60????????!!!!

That's pretty normal for them to be conservative with the numbers. I remember seeing that the previous Si (EP3) was usually listed at 0-60 of 8 seconds, but I remember the R&T article they were able to get it to 7.6. There are also factors such as weather, tires, driver, etc.

2nd should be a full 60mph even with this 6 spd.

if someone could list the gear ratios that would be a good start

and yeah, why base a buy on 0-60? if you're going to insist on a straight line accelleration test, look at 5-60 i guess, but much more than that you need to simply drive the car and see if it feels right.

it almost feels silly to be saying that again, haha

just noting the fact that

all drivers are different AND the fact that the new civic si has 2 oem sized tires avail upon delivery

ALONG with 18" avail setups

i wouldn't really trust any mag write ups
i'll wait till people take them to the track and post actual time slips along with what tires they were running

Meet the new K20Z3.

New Engine: Still Sexy, Even Three Horses Down
Damn the SAE. The Society of Automotive Engineers has devised new standards that require horsepower testing with the power steering pump in use. Credit to Honda for agreeing to this voluntary standard, which will soon be the norm. But it's also caused the Si's new K20Z3 powerplant to come in at 197 hp, just shy of the sexy "200 hp" that the marketing and ad departments had probably hoped for.
Still, like the girl who falls three votes short of winning homecoming queen, 197 hp still promises a hell of a good time. The 11.0:1 compression ratio helps the engine make max power at 7800 rpm and its 139 lb-ft of torque arrives at 6200 rpm.

A move fraught with ricer implications, engineers added a resonance chamber to the intake system to enhance and amplify the intake note. It works; the sound attaches itself to your adrenal glands.

Other changes surrounding the engine include a new mount system using upper and lower torque rods, a hydraulic body mount and front beam stopper. The intake system features a resonance chamber located along the fender well that amplifies the sound of VTEC engagement. It's a questionable move, slightly ricer in approach, but not obnoxious. Combined with a pleasing, softened "brap" from the exhaust, the car's respiratory system sounds healthy and hearty, more Kanye West than DMX.

By far Honda's biggest gamble, however, is the new drive-by-wire throttle. Instead of a simple cable manipulating the throttle butterfly, a council of electronic governors determines the true intentions of your right foot. Honda seems committed to DBW, so get used to it. The lag between throttle input and power delivery is noticeable and annoying when you're deep into a bout of "spirited driving."

You can smooth it out by dropping revs between shifts, which will work fine for city driving or cruising. But we're hoping aftermarket ECU tweakers like AEM and Hondata can help us ratchet up throttle sensitivity and eliminate the lag.

The badge is back, perhaps at its best ever.

So don't call it a comeback because the Si never left. We can't bust on the outgoing Si too much, given that its creators didn't equip it with the tools to succeed in life (incidentally, you can probably buy one cheap about now). The '06 Si comes stacked with DNA that reconnects us to a thrill not felt since 2000. There's not much more fun you can buy-everyday-for less than $20K (extra for navigation system). That's assuming, of course, that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Bolts & Washers
2006 Honda Civic Si
Propulsion
The new Si draws power from the newest K-series engine, the K20Z3. It puts down 197 hp at 7800 rpm and 139 lb-ft of torque at 6200 rpm. It features an 11.0:1 compression ratio, 86mm x 86mm bore/stroke, an 8000-rpm redline and a balance shaft mounted in the oil pan. It gets a 22/31 city/highway estimated gas mileage.

A six-speed manual transmission-the first 6MT offered on a North American Civic-and helical limited-slip transfer power to the ground. First- through fourth-gear ratios are nearly identical to those of the '99-2000 Civic Si.

Gear Ratios:
1: 3.267
2: 2.130
3: 1.517
4: 1.147
5: 0.921
6: 0.659
Final: 4.763

Rims & Rubber
Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 215/45R-17 tires wrap around 17x7-inch alloy wheels. Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 215/45R-17 summer tires are optional, as is a forthcoming 18-inch wheel/Yokohama tire package most likely offered through Honda's Factory Performance division.

Stance
Well, it's struts again, to the dismay of many Si purists. But don't trip. Honda engineers spent the last few years studying the EP3 design and radically improving it. There's a Control-Link MacPherson strut suspension up front with a 28mm sway bar and a Reactive-Link double-wishbone rear suspension with 17mm sway bar. Steering geometry is also noticeably improved and features a 13.62:1 steering ratio.

Resistance
Up front are 11.8-inch rotors and two-piston calipers, while 10.2-inch rotors and single-piston calipers handle the rear. Also included are nine-inch power booster, ABS and Electronic Brake Distribution.

Fashion
Outside: power moonroof, rear-wing spoiler
• wheelbase: 104.3 inches
• length: 174.8 inches
• height: 53.5 inches
• width: 68.9 inches
• track: 59 inches (front); 60.1 inches (rear)
• 2877-lb. curb weight
• 60/40 front/rear weight distribution

Inside: front and side curtain airbags (standard), power windows and door locks, cruise control; leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum leather-wrapped shift knob
• headroom: 37.8 inches (front); 34.7 inches (rear)
• legroom: 42.6 inches (front); 30.3 inches (rear)
• cargo volume: 11.5 cu. ft.
• passenger volume: 83.0 cu. ft.

I.C.E.
The Si comes with decent bump, thanks to a 350-watt, seven-speaker system that includes an 8-inch subwoofer. Other features: AM/FM/XM-ready head unit with MP3/Windows Media playback capability; MP3/auxiliary input jack; optional navigation; XM satellite radio (w/navi option); digital audio card reader (w/navi option).

Re: 2006 civic si 0-60????????!!!!

all speeds at 8k rpm, theoretically, as we all know that tire sizes are hardly ever completely accurate.

1 - 37.65
2 - 57.75
3 - 81.09
4 - 107.25
5 - 133.56
6 - 186.67

so, basing off those gear ratios and assuming everything is ACCURATELY sized, you'd have to shift into 3rd, which is an ugly shift and can, in the ham-fists of a magazine monkey, lead to a pretty hefty time penalty in the search for the fastest route to 60mph

Re: 2006 civic si 0-60????????!!!!

I checked those speed values above. They're pretty close. I got 58.58 mph @ 8000 RPM's in 2nd gear. So we're close to not having to shift, but not close enough - but there are two ways around this. You can either raise your revs which is obvious or taller tires/rims.

I'll show the calculations:

We know:
the final gear ratio = 4.763
the second gear ratio = 2.130
our tire size is 225/45/R17 (if i remember correctly)
and that the speed want to achieve is = 60 mph

We need the circumference, first need the total diameter of the tire
(225*0.4*2/25.4 mm/in. + 17 in)*3.14159 = 78.45 in.

to determine the number of rpm's required to achieve 60 mph:

60 mph * 4.763 = 285.78
285.78*12 in/ft*5280 ft/mi./(78.45 in. * 60 mph) = 3846.83 rev/min (trans.)

3846.83*2.130 (2nd gear ratio) = 8193 RPM --> so if you revved to 8193 RPM's, you could theoretically hit 60 mph without having shift, wouldn't recommend red lining it that much.

A safer way would be to increase the tire size:
Lets say: 235/45/R18
Circumference = 82.707 in.

82.707*60 min./hr*3755 rev/min/(12*5280)/4.763=61.76 mph @ 8000 RPM

So if you increased your overall tire size to approximately a 235/45/R18, you could reach over 60 mph without going over 8000 rpm.

It would have to be determined though whether the 1/2 to 3/4 of a second to shift would slow down the 0-60 time more than the increased mass inertia (harder for the car to spin the tire if it weighs more therefore requiring more power) of the larger tire. If you went to a titanium or lightweight aluminum alloy 18" wheel, it would be beneficial and your 0-60 time would definitely drop. If the 0-60 time is actually 6.8 seconds or whatever, you might be looking at approximately 6.0 - 6.3 if you didn't have to shift into third which would be much better. Hope this helps with the 0-60 discussion.

Sounds about right. A great driver may shave a few tenths off, but 7-7.5 is average. That being said, the SI is not a drag racer, so maybe you should look into something else?
