Craigslist find, 1983 P200e, been sitting in a garage since 1990. I paid $750 for it, don't know if it runs. Got some time to dig into it tomorrow, gonna clean out the gas tank, drop in a new plug, and cross my fingers \:\)

Good kill.

You'll probably need to pull the carb and clean it out too (in the box on top of the engine). Then buy a modern PX seat (much more comfortable than the original), a Euro taillight and Michelin S1 tires (the shit that's on there will likely kill you the first time it gets damp outside).

And the front brake is just for show, the rear brake is what will stop you (contrary to all other 2 wheel vehicles).

And don't forget to ask me anything you want to know about it.

Man, when I was a kid we lived in Sicily for a year. The Italian kids came around like a gang of bikers on their Vespa's. Popping wheelies and shit, just seemed like outlaws. Will never forget "Massimo", he always had the hook up for drugs, whatever. Everyone knew he was in the Mafia, but he was always cool with us American kids. Just a short story here.

If that engine doesn't work, remove it and replace with ?what? that has 4x more power?

Dude, it's 200cc driving 10" wheels on a chassis engineered during WWII. Not sure 4x more power is a worthwhile goal \:\)

1. It's a two-stroke, more power doesn't require a motor swap.

2. Nothing swaps in. It's a unique set up.

3. A mildly tuned P200 is good for 70mph all day. 70 mph on 10" wheels and with legshields that act as wings and a massive rearward weight bias is plenty exciting for anybody.

It lives!! Took a bit of work to get everything sorted, ended up rebuilding the carb and then it fired right up. Ran out of daylight, so hopefully tomorrow I can get do a bit of tuning. Oh, and I need to fix the brakes. Should probably do that first.

BTW, there's a disc brake swap from modern PX's and Stellas that will swap right in. Not cheap, but hydraulic disc >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> cable actuated drum.

You need a new seat. Who knows what kind of fart particles reside there. \:\(

I scoured the universe to find this for you, I hope you enjoy, sir.

Riding a Vespa led me to purchasing my 636. I love 2 wheels and forever will. \:\)

Love those chopped legshields. Mine's pretty much the polar opposite of that one lols.

In other news, I picked up a set of S1s today. Which led to me breaking down the split rims to swap the tires. Which then led to some quality time with the angle grinder and wire wheel. Which got caught in my hair and took a chunk out of my left cheek. That was awesome. Whatever, chicks dig scars.

Anyways, not sure what color to paint the wheels. I have a couple cans of light silver wheel paint lying around, but I'm considering oven baked Krylon epoxy in industrial gray for better durability.

Fucking steel split rims. I hadn't thought about those in years. Yeah, the more durable the coating you can put on there, the better. And remember, the tires and wheels are both directional, so don't put your tires on backwards.

There's a shop out of Vietnam ( http://scootrs.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=733 ) that makes tubeless rims for Vespas. If I still had one, that would probably be the direction I'd go. I hate tubes with a passion. And S1's will run tubeless.

Got tires mounted today with no further mishap, man they're night and day from the OEM tires. Got the brakes done too, not a huge improvement but at least I can stop now. Thing is riding pretty sweet, now I just gotta fuck with the tuning a bit more.

So Scott, another totally random question. My headlight is now operating intermittently. It was working just fine when I had the dead battery wired in, but I put in a new batt, and now the headlight works sometimes. Probably a short, but figured I'd ask to see if it's a known issue.

Sounds like a bad ground. I'd start with the wires on the battery side if you haven't taken the headset off. It seems like P200 headlights are always AC (while the taillight and turn signals are DC), so the battery change shouldn't have made a big difference, but maybe you jostled something in the process. I'm not positive though, I never had a fancy 12v Vespa like that.

Well it was a simple enough fix, couple of shorted wires in the headset, fixed the headlight and the horn in less than 5 min. I love these things. Took it out for a 30 mile ride today, haven't had that much fun in a long time...

So now that I've got the mechanicals squared away, it's time to start thinking about some mods. First thing on my mind is a new exhaust, I'm debating between a rebranded RZ MKII for $235, or a 226 Hot Wing for $500. The other option is to upgrade suspension with a Bitubo front shock. Or maybe a 24 carb...

You should be able to pick up a 24/24 carb (if you don't already have one on there) dirt cheap ($50 or less). I don't know how many pipes are stock top end friendly. If you ever do a top end kit, it's Malossi or nothing. Polinis and Pinascos just aren't durable enough. Bitubo front shocks are good, stock rear damper with an uprated spring is always a good idea.

I'll post some new pics tomorrow, it's currently in pieces in my yard, receiving a bit of bodywork and paint. Hope to be done tomorrow afternoon, didn't bother taking any progress pics cause it's pretty boring. Clean, sand, spray. Repeat. Over and over.
