6.2L, 450hp @ 6000rpm, 450ft lbs torgue, this will be the engine in the base corvette. It has direct injection and cylinder deactivation, and GM says it'll get 26mpg CITY.

GM builds great V8's. Hoping it trickles down.

I'm a Ford guy through and through but GM really nailed it with the LS engines (am I telling you guys anything you didn't already know?) So awesome of them to keep going with pushrods even when the motor enthusiast public was turning their noses up. I love the Ford engines (new v6 and Coyote) but are they really getting any more out of them than GM's rusty pushrod motors? As awesome as they are, they're complex and HUGE.

So it'll get the same rating in the city as their cruze "eco" model get's with an automatic??? I mean, being a light car as I'm sure it'll be, I can see it doing well, like 19-21 which is exceptional for a large v8 powered car...but that well??? I'm a little skeptical; that is unless is expected to shutdown when coming to a stop, and the EPA's has changed it's formula to account for more shut-down period thus boosting city mileage more than cuurent EPA formula allows for start-stop tech (right now, it barely impacts city rating). That said, what are they expecting out of hwy mileage? 33? 35? 36+???

Keep in mind, the EPA numbers on the tags aren't the same as the CAFE numbers...those will be considerably higher. Will this be a corvette whose CAFE numbers approach 40mpg combined??? That said, is the 26mpg a CAFE number or the number they expect on the tags?

I'll admit though...a little disappointed in the actual output...450/450 isn't too bad, mind you...but the high compression/DI combo I would have hoped for a bit more. As a comparison point, the 6.4 liter, 392ci Hemi also uses cylinder deactivation (only with automatics), less compression, similar variable cam tech (and unfortunately not the viper's old "cam in cam" arrangement for independent valve control) and get's a healthier 470/470 out of it's non-DI set-up.
