I took a look at my friends mustang, the clutch wont disengage. Do these have the master cylinder for the brakes and clutch built in together? I was going to make sure that the was fluid in the hydraulic clutch system but couldnt find a separate master cylinder. Do both systems run off the same reservoir? Should I go ahead and try to bleed the system at the slave cylinder?
Pretty sure the clutch is operated by a cable. It's not hydraulic. If something is wrong with the actuation, the pedal should feel different (i.e. no cable slack, the pedal will just flop).
Get under the car, there should be a black box on the trans where the cable connects to the trans. That was what it was on the T5, I'm assuming the T45 is similar.
Once you remove the box (1 bolt), you can tell if the clutch is operating the lever/fork or not.
I am unaware of a fork problem myself, I know the quadrant was an issue in Fox bodies (plastic "lever" that operated the cable). I don't think they changed for SN95's, but I am not certain. It was basically a connectioned between the pedal and the cable under the dash. It was white, plastic and somewhat common that the gears would strip.
To auto adjust it, pull up on the clutch and push down all the way, if you hear some clicks, it has been adjusted.
Here is a pic, the quadrant is the 1/4 circle shaped peice on the bottom of the pic (to the right of the pedals when under the dash).
Otherwise, I'd check to make sure the cable is actually operating the fork. If it is and then clutch is still not disengaged, maybe the fork is bad or the throwout bearing is seized.
I don't think it'd be a stretch to say that all cars these days have hydraulic actuated clutches, I doubt any manufacturers would use cable mechanisms anymore...
Funny though because I preferred the clutch feel in my Mustang over any car I've owned before or since, heh.
Once you figure out what the problem is let me know. We have a brand new cable, firewall adjuster and UPR quadrant just sitting on the shelf that we'll never use. Let it all go for like $60ish shipped.
