Has anyone used their service in the States?

If I just purchase a data package; if someone sends me an iMessage does it get converted to a txt when it gets forwarded to my US number?

I've used it but only as a wifi hotspot to connect my phone to, so I was carrying two phones.

Used it couple years ago and signal was SHIT. Anytime you're not in town forget about it. Totally unusable on the interstates and 3G is too damn slow.

Never used Roam Mobility but...

While I have UNLIMITED DATA with my T-Mobile LTE, I still pay Rogers to roam on ATT because there is no point of unlimited data or cheap service when you have no/weak coverage. Always have a backup if relying it for navigation because you CAN get fucked with a tier 2 provider.

Even driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles, a very popular route, T-Mobile (and likely other cheap providers) will lose reception leaving you data-less.

I had an ATT prepaid for years while traveling to the USA, this was before data was a necessity, think 14 years ago. We switched to Roam but outside of cities it doesn't work. I couldn't believe being on interstates not having coverage. Now on ATT prepaid again and it's great, no sharing to other partner networks but I've never had an issue. It's $60/month US though.

Exactly! Totally pointless when it doesn't work outside of the city. Don't even understand why RFD had such a hardon for roam. Was a frustrating experience to say the least.

Roam was fine if you flew to some large airport and never left the metropolitan core. Any drive long enough you'd take a piss before getting in the car and it was crap. I had no idea RFD was all about it. We still have it actually and it gets used quite a bit, but not road tripping.

Yup that was my mistake. Using it for a road trip and even then reception was sketchy when in major towns.

I have been using it exclusively for all my US travel for the last 3 years and found it to be a great option. I covered a good 1000miles in California with it and it would lose reception the odd time but only for a minute or so. I also used it on my frequent drive from Toronto to Philadelphia and even in the middle of nowhere it was near perfect. Florida it was perfect everywhere I travelled.

My only complaint is they keep slowly raising the price!

roam uses the t-mobile network. checked their coverage before you commit.

Just got back from the States, I purchased Roam's data package only and it worked fine. I only lost connection in spots I expected.
