So here is a little background. I have been running my charger on my car for 50 to 60K miles without any issues. Last week while driving home I through a cell P0131, which is for low voltage to the Primary Oxygen sensor.

I have been running a test pipe with Zips O2 Simulator the entire time. Thinking that maybe the O2 Simulator went bad, I had my Catlytic converter installed back on the car and plugged the sensor back in. I reset the cell and drove ~15 to 20 miles and it has not come back on. This is positive.

The other issue that I now have is my car detonates with the slightest touch of the gas. I have to drive it super carefully to not detonate. I do not have engine management. I have the 2025 Cartech Fuel Pressure Regulator. The Fuel Pressure on my gauge also reacts very quickly to any throttle deployment.

Any ideas what I should look at??

Now that the catalytic conv and o2 sensor are installed, I am thinking about uninstalling the O2 Simulator in case it did go bad and that is contributing to the fuel issues.

If you are using the fmu crap that comes with the JRSC kits then throttle tip in detonation is probably what you are experiencing.

What plugs do you have in the car? Do you have an AFR gauge to show you what AFRs are with throttle tip in?

You might have to bite the bullet and buy true engine management and get the car tuned properly.

Plugs are NGK brk7e. Well, I can tell you which cylinder is detonating. God Damn. #2 spark plug and wire were torched. Going to leave it in the garage until I can check the ohms on the injectors to see if I have a bad injector.

THIS. time to ante up to a simple engine management solution. i ran a very basic hondata s200 and 440cc rc injectors when i had a 00 civic w/ a jr. helped tremendously. DO IT. and might have to replace one or both o2 sensors cause they are prolly shot. won't know until you use a voltmeter.

Also if your front o2 sensor is shot, then you should have that replaced also. It could be thinking it's too rich and just pulling back fuel. Do you have a good scanner to check long and short term fuel trims?

All resistors came back consistant on my Multimeter at 11.8Ohms, so those look fine. I replaced the spark plugs and wires and have the car on jacks to replace the primary O2 sensor as well. I am hoping it was all related to the primary sensor.

If it has been running good for 50-60K then most likely it is one of the parts you are replacing.

I was able to get the Primary o2 sensor installed in addition to the wires and plugs and it appears to be running better without detonation under normal driving conditions. I have not tried to push it into boost yet.

I had a similar issue when I had mine, but it would only detonate under half boost, but at full it was scream. Ended up having a vacuum line that was clogged.

Thanks for the tip. I have been thinking about replacing all of my vacuum lines with new rubber, just because they are getting a bit old and the stuff is cheap.

Drove into work today cell free, however the car still wants to detonate even out of boost. If I press the gas enough to cause my fuel pressure gauge to increase by 10-20 psi it starts to detonate. I don't remember my fuel pressure rising until I transitioned from vacuum to boost in the past. Was I just not paying attention or is it abnormal for the fuel pressure to increase even out of boost?

Sounds like the map sensor might be seeing boost. Are you running the relay or the JR map controller?

I made a few WOT runs on the way home last night and the detonation stops when in boost, so it looks to be 'tip in' related. o2 Sensor likely fixed the cel, so I should be "ok" for now.

Cut the charger belt off today and the car runs completely detonation free and the vacuum stays at 10 while accelerating.

a lot of us had the same problems with the jrsc... we all ended up getting bigger injectors and engine management, and the things really helped out a lot... I'll tell you my story,

I started off with the JRSC with just a AEM CAI and walbro LPH 255 fuel pump, and retarding the timing by say 6-10 degrees. There was power, but my car suffered from lack of low end power. I think it dyno'd at a measly 157 whp

So then I tried using Zip's version of the VAFC plus DSM 450 cc's to trick the MAP sensor and raising the fuel in boost. It did not solve tip-in detonation, the car would surge every so often in part throttle, and then after the 3rd or 4th day, it would throw a CEL.

Then I upgraded to the hondata with rc 440's, had it retuned, and got a healthy 198 whp with still just a an aem CAI and fuel pump. timing was advanced, and the car became so much more driveable.

You're probably on a budget, but to be honest, when you're supercharging or turbocharging, you've got a do it right, or suffer having detonation and possibly more damage to the internals...

Some people were running chrome a while back as well as a host of other freeware type engine management software on p28 ecus. you may want to check that out if you're on a budget... cheers

I would at least try and find a used JR Map controller, some times they pop up and are $50-70.

Yeah, I read up on the MAP controller and it sounds like it just dumps fuel as if you are cold cranking your car at start up. I'm just going to leave the charger belt off for awhile, until I get annoyed by the slowness. haha

Question for people with a Jackson Racing charger or who had one. If you schredded a belt and took it off. Would you zip tie the bypass valve open or leave it alone to continue driving? If you did zip tie it, would your car go into vtec or not. Mine does not with it not zip tied. I have not tried zip tying it yet.

If the belt is off, then you won't need to open up the bypass valve in regards to risk of hurting your motor. As far as vtec engaging or not, you've got me on that one. I believe vtec is based on engine speed, rpms, and throttle position / air velocity - not whether or not the bypass valve is open. Then again, you're probably getting a lot of restriction with the JRSC not working, so if you open up the bypass valve, you may be getting the vtec to engage...

Dang,cant believe some people still have this problem 10 yrs later after the JRSC intro. Get a simple engine management and the car will run better and reliably. All the JR rig fixes are just that; a bandaid. Your vtec is based off engine load and rpm. Fix the belt asap and stop revving the motor with a broken blower belt.

nobody mentions here that you should be running premium with jrsc. i also had the same issue and started running 91 and once with 100 which fried my o2 sensor and cat b/c of lead in the 100 octane. But ultimately I say get rid of the jsrc the company is unreliable and at some point the compressor housing will start to leak oil which is not refillable. good luck
