Wife's lease on the Q5 is coming up ... Looking for an SUV with a 3rd row that won't be used that often, and that isn't a mini-van.
(Ideally, we'll still need SOME trunk space when 3rd row in use - i.e. big stroller.)
Options considered: - Audi Q7 (looks boring/too similar to Q5.) -- haven't tested - Volvo XC90 (unsure if 6 or 7-seater. I think the 6 is rare.) -- test-drove the 7 - MB GLB (GLE starting price is a bit steep) -- to be test-driven - Land Rover (Sport, Discovery, Defender) -- sat in, test-drove one.
Tech considerations: - She thought the HUD is cool - Hates lane keep-assist on the Q5, disables it - Hates auto-emergency-braking; thinks she can do better with safety - Loves the auto-trunk-open via kick motion - Loves electric trunk
Options ruled out: - Acura MDX -- knees to nipples 3rd row - anything American probably (rented a 3-row Ford Explorer, and she loved the spacious interior though.) - Caddy Escalade - too big. Asked her to look at the XT6. - Tesla Model X -- entry-price, and likely range anxiety. Leasing price has very limited kms. - BMW X7 -- starting price is cray - BMW X5 -- she hasn't considered yet - Lexus - may need another look -- she doesn't like the old tech
She'll be gawking at the gas mileage with whatever we get... (i.e. Q5 is 2.4L turbo premium gas.)
And IB4NissanQashqaiY0!
My suggestion was for her to pick up a mid-sized luxo SUV (ala Q5-size) lease, I keep my (paid off) mid-sized sedan, and we buy a (gently) used Honda Odyssey/Toyota Sienna.

OP asking for shit all over the map (vehicle that doesn't exist, 3rd row, big trunk, but escalade too big, BUT GOOD ON GAZ lelz) and won't take anything recommended here anyway.
Enjoy your new CR-V/Palisade/Tellaturd lease when the rigmarole is done.

Test-drove the Benz GLE 2-row version; didn't have the 3-row on the lot ("It's 10km away in one of our lots" ) ... wife liked the dash but overall wasn't impressed.
GLE lease payments more than what wife was expecting (well, duh, we walked in considering GLB lease payments.)
She later went back to Volvo to look at the 2020 XC90 (7-seat) + Inscription package ... Wasn't impressed Volvo doesn't have heated/cooled cupholders
Asked her to look at the X5/X7, she thinks BMWs give off a 'gino' vibe from her childhood
Looking more and more like the XC90.
I was nudging her into the Tesla Model X territory, citing we'd very likely have to buy it (lease kms just doesn't work out), then I'd take it over after a few yrs ... She wasn't biting.

Q7 feels quick for such a big car. SQ5 and you get a fun car if you need to haul more people around.
If you do go mid size, the RDX A Spec looks pretty good. I like my 2017.
Not sure if you looked at Mazdas. They have decent materials. May be Lexo enough for your wife....

Returning the Q5 lease today ... early by 3 months (Volvo's paying for it.)
Picking up the XC90 today, with upgraded 21" rims Picking up some 19" alloys from Tires23 (the existing 19" X-Ice2's are a perfect fit for the XC90)
Gonna pick up some centre caps for the 19's ... Any idea where? (I don't even know how to make sure they even fit on the 19" aftermarket alloys ... 'Dai Wheels' brand)

2020 Volvo XC90, white (upgraded paint?), 21" rims, Inscription package, and some other packages.
As soon as wife hears 'discount', 'sale', or 'limited-time offer', she jumps at it like she got a great deal ... This usually ends up with us missing out on details. In her case, because she 'doesn't care' about cars ... She assumes there are certain creature comforts, but there aren't...
I haven't really been in the vehicle yet, and she's only starting to get used to it... But ...
FFS, the 3rd row seats are 100% manual, and the seats are heavy as fuck. I don't remember testing the lifting/folding of 3rd row I loved how the Ford Explorer had electric fold-down/up seats ...
She hates the fact there's no heated/cooled cup holders. She doesn't like the HUD but got it as part of a package ... That's all the bitching I can think of so far.

So, trying to re-use the Michelin X-Ice2's off the Q5 on the XC90 has come up with another set of problems: load rating different on the vehicles. Risk it? FML...

Compared the 'gross weight' of a Q5 vs XC90 ... it's about ~2000lb difference. Stupid or not, played it safe and ordered new higher-load-rated tires.
Whatever ...
Haven't driven it myself yet ... but there's considerable body roll going 90km/h on a 70km/h on-ramp ... much more leg-room than the Q5, not crazy about the infotainment.
Wife learned of the adaptive cruise control + keep-lane assist thing, and thinks it's full-blown "Tesla Autopilot" (i.e. she can't remember if she changed lanes or it did it by itself ) ... (She had this on the Q5, but hated it, citing the car was 'drifting' and the wheels were crooked )
But, she hates the auto-braking cuz it already brake-checked her .... Tell her she's following too closely, but she doesn't believe it, and so disabled the auto-brake.
This model comes 'standard' with 21" wheels/tires, despite it being listed as a "$1000 add-on" ... i.e. even the sticker in door jam lists 21" as standard. Road-noise is considerably more than Q5 (IIRC.)
Yeah ... This is the shit I have to live with.
Seems there's an ongoing issue with the nozzles at the gas station auto-stopping due to the no-filler-cap thing. Whatever...
