Since my engine bay is not completely embarrassing right now, I figured I'd take a few pics and post them up. Let me know what you think. I'm sort of shooting for a stock-like appearance, but nicer. Feel free to post up your engine pics too as I like seeing what other folks are doing.

I wanted to keep it strictly to engine bay pics... but since you asked, here's one. This is before coilovers. It now sits ~1.5 inches lower. Wheels are on order. 264 whp, 268 wtq.

let's change the spark plugs: step 1: find a midget step 2: remove TB step 3: curse after the insanely cramped space of the lower bolts ripped the crap out of your midget knuckles step 4: realize the damn x-brace is in the way, remove it. step 5: disconnect throttle linkage step 6: wonder why it's dark out... you started at 10AM... check watch, 5PM? it took that long to get to here?! step 7: give up and only replace three of four plugs.
Nice pictures, i never knew it was THAT cramped in that engine bay... that's worse than a Z32.
Looking at those pics made me think of my old z32 actually..
Car looks nice though. I dabled in MR2 turbos a little in highschool have things changed from the engine not wanting to make a lot of power without blowing up? Or are tuners still battling the same issues from 10 years ago?

Reliability, longevity, and drivability. Kart clutches are set to stall just at or slightly below the torque peak, so when you come off of a slow corner and mash the throttle, you're putting the maximum amount of power to the rear axle to pull off the corner. This is also really hard on the motor, as its heavily loaded at its maximum output, and hard on the clutch for obvious reasons.
With the can exhaust, I only have to slip the clutch at ~8500rpm, limit revs to 14,000rpm, ~13-14hp, and when you get too lean power output goes flat instead of the motor going boom. Clutches last a few races, the motor can last most of a season, tuning is simple/easy, and power output is relatively even so you can concentrate on driving the kart.
With a pipe, you slip the clutch at ~10,500rpm, max revs at 15-16,000rpm, 18-22hp depending on who you believe, and when you get lean the motor tends to stick with little warning. Rebuild the clutch every weekend, rebuild the motor twice or more a season, and always have a spare motor for when you stick it because you forgot to fiddle with the carb mid corner or going down the straight.
I might end up running a direct drive pipe, with a low-stall clutch, which will combine the best of both worlds (easy to drive, simple to tune, 18-20hp, and low stress/maintenance) but I haven't decided for sure yet. I'm waiting to see whats popular at the track first.
