The LS7 is going together nicely. Built by the famed Whistler of LS1 Tech and myself. Its going into the SS unless I find a super nice and cheap FD. The budget for this build is outta control so a different car is pointless. Fabricated 9 inch and Iforged wheels are still on hold until we pound the wells with the BFH.

The great facility were are building it in

The fully balanced rotating assembly, Manley Rods and Pistons

Removing Mains for Clearance check

Carrillo K1 crank

Droppin Slugs

Rotating assembly......assembly

Done, minus the main and head Studs I'm STILL waiting for

Big bore

The rest

Sick ass TSP LS7 Heads

Massive Titanium goodness

Top end and porting LS7 intake on Tuesday.

Thought about it but can't be done. There is no car I would want except an FD, and the cost of the car and work involved would be beyond what I would want to spend. Maybe in a year or two it will be swapped into the new Camaro, but who knows. So to me it would be better to have an SS that would contend to be the hottest street 4th Gen, than an unending project/money pit. I bought 2 new cars within a year and I'd be stretching myself thin. Most SS's don't sport $5000 wheels, narrowed fabricated rear, Sparco seats, Strano suspension/tubular everything. The only thing factory on this car will be the body, which will hopefully be painted within a year. Besides, for better or worse, mullet or not, I am a Camaro guy. If I really wanted something else, I would have bought a Z06 a while ago.

Its bought and I am assembling it now, only the wheels and rear have a deposit. I also made sure to pay cash for the whole build and didn't touch a credit card, so as the cost has climbed my limit has stayed the same. Basically adding a car, especially one needing a lot of fabrication means delaying enjoying the car. Besides I know how to tear down a f-body, I don't know shit about FD's.

pfft. I have two engines with bigger bores (and one with less displacement) in my garage. The 383 has a 4.28" bore after the overbore, and the 440 is running 4.38" right now.

Only the 440 (well, 512ci's when it comes together) will have a snowball's chance of equaling the power out-put though, lol.

Good kill on the build...engine building is bar none, my favorite thing in the car hobby...though I must admit to a fetish of building off-kilter, non-mainstream engines more and more.

This is actually my first start to finish build. I love it, its nice doing a whole motor for a change. My friends think I am crazy cutting my teeth on an LS7, but I cant think of a cooler way to do it. I have a very narrow focus in knowledge though. All I know is Ellis variations, though I am sure with a book full of specs I could put together whatever. Having one of the great all around minds of the LS motor world as a friend is awesome. I could not do it without Whistler, he put all my cumulative knowledge into practice. Once this cars running I am jumping straight into the KB blown motor and fabrication work, and will cut my teeth on tuning myself. Trial by fire, baby, trial by fire.

I thought the cool thing abou the LS7 was the fact that it had the UBER light rotating assembly. Doesn't installing the aftermarket Manley rods and pistons, along with the aftermarket crank kinda defeat that purpose?

Or was this rotating assembly built to LS7 specs?

We debated that a while. I actually had some low mileage ones but we sold them and went forged. They are Manley Lightweight rods, but still not Titanium light. We questioned the ability of the Tit rods to withstand the spray. If the car was going to be roadraced it would be worth it to me for the ability to rev to the moon, but wheelstands are far more likely, so strength was chosen. Titanium rods benefit is light weight, thats about it. The factory crank is inferior to the one I went with, but all are stout to 800hp+

Good shit!

Also, should the desire ever arise this thing should be stout enough for a TON of boost.

Please boost it!

While the light rotating assembly is awesome, It's also awesome to get the cubes without having to go to a C5R block.

Yeah, I was patient and got an LS7 block for only $1500 because the guy said it had gouges on the deck. I had it decked twelve thousands and the gouges were gone.
