scott: do you document your light setups? Reason why I ask is because there are some funky shadows on that chick's face from the hair and what not.
If you don't, it might be a good idea to start.

Fuck shooting tethered. Adjust the light and get it right right then and there. The modelling light works on the strobes right? So it's not like you have to chimp and fix ad nauseum 10 times before you get it right.
Huge believer in not shooting tethered when it comes to doing portraits. You lose so much flow and connection with your subjects, the photos will turn out like shit every time no matter how nice you've set everything else up.
You can get by in a fashion shoot, since you're selling the clothes and the model is just an accessory; but not in portraits.

Processed this image after going through and relearning some black and white conversions. It was shot in 06 on my 10D. I plan to go back this fall/winter whenever it is foggy again.  Scott, you just need to keep a better eye on the funky shadows being cast, most of which you have already mentioned, for next time. Good luck with your next assignment! You definitely made progress on the post work.

Manfrotto magic arm with a super clamp is what I call it haha, it's the same arm I use to hang the camera from the rig.

The lower contrast one looks way better to my eye. Too much detail has gone missing with the 2nd iteration.

shooting products this session. spend countless hrs in the studio for a couple assignments already. here's the first of our individual shots where we can choose whatever we want. overlooked the halo'ing on the top edge in post. the screen was a screencap enlarged 10% a few times, then dropped in. choppy gradient came from the choppy fresnel glass that i forgot to put spun glass diffuser in. yay..product photography! :snore:

That's a very good (albeit incredibly boring) exercise your teachers are having you do. I agree with all of your self-critiques, over all the shot looks pretty good for what it is though.
