The producer isn't too hard on the eyes. Is that for the Delaware Punkin Chunkin Championship?
It's a pumpkin launcher, and yes, this was in Delaware. This is a kid's team's machine, and it did launch pumpkins all the way to the tree line. I had never seen the show and didn't know what to expect, but man, it really was incredible. Not something I would build, but incredible.  3500' was the number I heard being tossed around.

Have you thought about using that lens with an extender instead of your 400mm? A bunch of canon guys are trading their 100-400L for a MkII 70-200m and using 2X teleconverters.
A friend of mine has the 2x extender, and I've used it, and I wasn't too happy with it. It had a negative effect on the image quality, IMO, mainly in the background "bokeh." It lessened the creaminess.

Wow, the price gap isn't that bad with the canon guys iirc. They have mixed results, but some nature guys love the combo.
Punkin Chunkin is something I found flipping through cable at Thanksgiving a few years ago. Discovery Science Channel has done the special the last few years. I figured that was a small team, since the big cannons have air tanks as big as that entire car.

The TC-17EII is much better then the older 2x. The new TC-20EIII is supposed to be awesome. The 70-200 with 1.7x is pretty rad. I used this combo for many of my early zoo pictures and the moon picture that I posted above.

Do it!!! If you shoot on the DX body often and/or you are doing any post processing I don't see any reason for you to go with the the VRII over the VRI. Too bad a good condition example costs just about what I paid for mine 18 months ago.
With the VRII you do get better stabilization, nano coating and less vignetting on FX bodies but the full price is salty.

Started digging into this shot today...
Pretty happy with how it's looking so far, I would say it's somewhere around 50% done. The basic compositing is all there, just need to clean it up, namely the rear end of the car.
Thoughts? I'm going for an "OEM brochure" kind of look.
