no sir, it was the 100mm macro from Canon on my 30d. I did take some with the x100 though, but they just did not come out - was trying to handhold, whereas the Canon was on the tripod

As requested by Chelle I didn't mess with this one to much, a little contrast and that's about it. Taken with the 18-55 kit lens.

Yeah...our stop at Gettysburg the other night was like perfect timing. We were just driving by and said "let's stop, because the light is nice" and I rattled off a bunch of nice shots. I hadn't had fun with my camera for a long time, but I think that outing was enough to get me back into it again.

broke my lights out tonight. Played around with some different configs. Don't have a softbox and didn't feel like putting the umbrella's up, so I socked the reflectors. Probably could have dialed the power down a bit.
edit: I lied, this wasn't SOOC, I have another shot that was nice SOOC. This one was cropped, with a touch of sharpening and decreased clarity, as well as the lens profile. Other than that, not color balance or anything else.
Camera: Canon Rebel XT, time delay, Lens: 28-135mm 3.5-5.6 IS USM Specs: 41mm, f4.5, ISO 100 1/200s Lighting: AlienBees strobes, AB800, AB400, remotely triggered from camera using CyberSync. Set up: AB800 with socked 7" reflector, behind camera left, 6ft up, 6 ft from subject, 1/8 power. AB400 with socked 7" reflector, behind and below subject, 1ft from floor, 1ft from subject, 1/8 power.

Nice pics above.
I forgot to post an image yesterday. Here is a squirrel right before it bailed into the trees. It is a heavy crop, but better than getting skunked:

A T1i isn't exactly the best match for that lens. Not sure if it can pull off much higher shutter speeds at that focal length and aperture.

Nice Mike. Are you able to get the whole reflection in the frame?
I am with GB on the faster shutter. However Scott makes a great point and that the rule of your shutter speed being at least that of the focal length has to be reevaluated due to the IS/VR options now afforded to us. In this situation though, a faster shutter won't only potentially sharpen the image, it will freeze the action better.

I've gone back and forth on freezing action versus trying to keep things more fluid - that doesn't bother as I use paintball as my practice for my camera. The last couple times out I had noticed that the ISO was going hog wild high at 300+mm and instead of letting the aperture go as open as possible I wanted to see if I could lock the ISO and use a higher aperture and maintain some decency of shutter speeds.

Yes, I made sure I took a few pics with the whole reflection.
The image I posted is one of them, but I cropped it for the sake of composition. I'm looking at 600+ pics from one day alone, so I'm just getting started with post, and am not in a groove yet. I'll start posting some shots from the actual hike next week... although no telling what all I will shoot over the weekend. There are too many events to cover / attend. I'm RSVP to the aquarium again on Friday if anyone has requests.

I have no doubt Kevin's images look 100% great at 1/150sec after considering buying the lens for almost a year. It's just that it works sooooo much better with a 5DmkII, that the two go hand-in-hand. Just check out the lens archive at POTN and you'll see what I mean.
Speaking of 5D's... might get one this weekend myself. Going to at least get a 7D unless there is an 8D or something coming out soon. Tired of screaming out loud when the buffer fills up after 4-5 shots on my T2i when shooting wildlife. Even a 60D would work.

I want a 7D so bad, but by the time I'm ready to grab one I'm afraid Canon will announce the 8D by then... I need to learn more on my T1i - errrr... I <3 this hobby.

Yeah. It's ridiculous that the 7D is still canon's crop flagship after 2 years. My T2i takes the exact same quality photos.
I just looked at the current price... $1600??? Is canon high on bath salts? I thought they were more like $1200 or $1000. wtf

Guess I'll look at a 60D at Best Buy in the morning. Anything with a top LCD display and faster shutter. Ah well... Thought I was gonna upgrade a lot, but $1600 for a 7D isn't happening in this lifetime. Maybe a memorial day sale?
Edited by flyEX #1 (05/26/11 04:27 AM) Edit Reason: $1600? ...Seriously?
