I got the entire sequence of him diving down and getting the fish! I fucking had the camera on AI Servo though (I think that's it) so the shot of him coming in is in focus (but the shots on burst mode are a bit fuzzy because he got closer to me and the camera didn't refocus) Ah well, manual focus if I have something like that happen again. I'm going to make an animated gif of it I think. Got some wicked bear shots on this trip as well.

The yellows (and or saturation or vibrance) seem a little much in that one, I can't make out details in his talons. Still an awesome pic like the other... I want to see all of them!!!!

Yeah, I boosted up the saturation a bit, lol. Let me go play with it some more.
  (Updated the pic)
Thanks Kevin! To be honest, I'd love to see what Fil/Nate/Scott with thier PS skills could do with these pics. I don't do much at all to be honest, lol.
That's the one part about this whole photog thing that I seriously suck at. I also need a longer lens for next year! (perhaps something with IS as well)

Much better IMO. I just go for 'realistic' when I shoot sports/outdoors/nature/etc... and be damned if all my colors are bright and colorful.
What lens are you using for that shot? How much of a crop have you done on that? There still seems to be some detail loss in the talons but if you're at almost 100% crop on that shot it's understandable. It'd also be a little more powerful too if you could cut down some of the color in the dirt behind the eagle, making it pop a little more.
The only thing I would have done differently would be to cut off some of the top and bottom of the photo as there's a lot of stuff in the shot and the top is a lot darker and the bottom is a lot brighter, but that's me. Overall though I like the way you composed it as it's not what I would have done - lol. If you want I'll give it a shot on how I'd process it, shoot me a pm if you want.

It was taken with a 70-200 f4L @ 200mm. I didn't want to crop right in on the bird (don't ask me why) but the background is super distracting, so I might have to in the end.

I don't think you have to, I like the way you cropped it. I personally would have cropped it more but after seeing yours I might go 'bigger' in the future some. See Scott's redo on it and it definitely has a better balance from top to bottom (not as drastically dark on top or bright on the bottom) and the Eagle is more center stage with the background tamed down some. I also like the clairty (or added detail) in the face area of Scott's redo. I don't like though the feathers in Scotts, look too overdone for me. I'm with Scott, I'd love to go at that photo in RAW just to see where I ended up differently. I can't say mine would be better, just different, as that what makes photography great, everyone has a different style and feel.
Awesome shot though, I wish we had Eagles around here... not in a zoo .

I was pissed this past winter, I couldn't get closer than half a mile to an eagle.
And yeah, the feathers on version I did are overdone. When you're working with an image at 1:1 scale like that, you have to pull way back on all your adjustments and I got down to the point where .2 pixel radius had no effect and .3 did that.
Yeah I figured working on a small jpeg hurt your processing.
And at least you can get within a 1/2 mile of an eagle... Every time we get one in the area it gets mad media coverage and everyone scares it off .

Got bored last night and started looking for shit to shoot around my apt while i wait for Irene to get here...

This glass actually looks good in color too as it has a blueish/purplish stem and base but i preferred the high contrast black/white blackline lighting.
