Alright, my 1 year builder's pre-paid package (phone + internet + cable) with Rogers is going to expire in September. I am planning to cancel the home phone regardless and keep Cable and Internet.

I am going to give Rogers a call on Tuesday to see if they can offer 20%-30% off their Express Internet service (is 20%-30% off the going discount rate from retention department?) If they are not giving me any deal, I am planning to switch to the independent ISP.

I googled for the reviews, Acanac has bad customer service and tech support. I can't decide which one to pick. I did the math for the 3 companies, Acanac is the cheapest if I prepaid for 12 months of service.

Both Acanac and Distributel offer unlimited usage, Teksavvy offers 300GB for similar price range. I am okay with 300GB if Teksavvy's service is more reliable.

I called the 3 ISP in the past and they do offer services in my area.

Who in here is using one of the 3 ISP right now? Your reviews would be appreciated \:\)

I have been using Acanac for almost 3 years now, no issues. At the beginning I had a sync issue but that was handled promptly when I sent in a support ticket.

For the most part I handle any issues on my end that are within my scope so I can't really comment to much on how their support would be if say I didn't have knowledge of computers/networking

I had acanac at first, after the first year I cancelled, they are fucking scum and because I had no phone line it also cost more. When they say shit customer service, you better believe it.

I am with Teksavvy, no land line and I am paying 31 dollars all in, no complaints.

If you are going with acanac, let me know I still have their modem I can sell you for cheap. I think they want like 60 bucks for it, I will give it to you for 30.

Your point about no phone line is moot as both companies charge similar for a dry loop, it's not like Acanac is going to charge $30 a month extra because you need dry loop.

Also modems are cheap. The $20 tplink modem works fine on both services.

Im with teksavvy cable and I have zero issues with it.

300gb cap is pretty tough to go over if you're not a heavy user. I find it pretty quick and fast. Only draw back is, if you want to make any changes to your account, there's a fee for it.

I cant recall what I paid for mine, I think 44 bucks all in?

However, a co worker got distributel a month after I got teksavvy, he had issues with the network for a solid month, but after that everything was good. The perks he gets from them are free modem and prompt consumer service (except for fees to change the accounts).

ask yourself this question - what do you use the most? the landline or your mobile phone? I had a landline at my first house and cancelled it within 2 months cuz I found myself not using the landline as often as I'd liked it to be.

is anybody on distributel cable?
I'm with teksavvy and it is garbage. Modem never syncs properly and always drops internet connection. It isn't really teksavvys fault, the service out here just sucks with regards to dsl, I can't even get dsl higher than 5Mbit and teksavvy doesn't offer cable here.
I've been wanting to switch to start.ca since they have a really good reputation with regards to service/support, they however don't offer unlimited and i've been holding out to see if that changes.
Distributel on the other hand offers unlimited but they don't have such a good track record when it comes to service/support.

It's funny how 5Mbit/s down is now considered slow, I remember when I upgraded to a 28.8 modem from a 9600 baud and thought that shit was blazing fast.

see my post, 5 posts up.

co-worker has one. it was pretty bad for a month with a lot of network issue with distributel and rogers. he had to exchange modems, got 4 tech visits, etc. However, it was the only issue he had with them and I think he's been with them for maybe close to a year now and really likes the speed they offer. So far, he says he's satisfied with them.

i'd gladly stick with teksavvy if they offered cable in my area but cogeco won't lease the lines to them or however it works. I know start definitely has use, not even sure if distributel has use of cogeco lines, their website doesn't even have a service check feature, you need to call and check for availability. Guess i'll call tomorrow and if it's available i'm switching. A 28/1 connection through them will be almost $10 cheaper/month compared to my current 5/0.8 from teksavvy.

Been with Acanac for 5 years, it's always been good, no complaints with the service. Service issues are responded to promptly. We recently needed a refund though because we moved and changed from DSL to Cable because the condo has no Bell wires in the building, and it took 6 weeks for the refund. They made us sign up for cable, and issue a refund for the unused DSL. Also we've had their 120/year VoIP for over 2 yrs, we use it for long distance basically and a number for my wife to give out should she not want to give out her company issued cell phone, but just last week they made it something like $0.05/min to call the US and parts of Canada, whereas it used to be free. I've been meaning to write them and say "WTF".

Screw Acanac. I tried them out for voip in 2006, nothing worked right and the customer service was horrible. Went to Vonage. $24.95 unlimited, free long distance to 26 countries including Canada and the US, with all the calling features that you can think of.

As for cable and internet, call Rogers retentions, $50 for the 75/2 mb package (50% discount with the modem rental thrown in), and 30% off cable with free HD PVR and HD boxes

I don't use the landline myself but my parents do use it as they are so oldschool and their pay-as-you-go phone gets expensive if you are on a long call

Oh shit, I am getting mixed reviews on the 3 ISP. I am going to call Rogers tomorrow and see if they can offer me a good retention diu. IF they do, I will stay cuz I have no issue with their service and speed, but their price is the most expensive out of any ISP out there

in the end, go with whatever is cheapest and actually available for your home.

its all shit, and its all shitty rogers/cogeco lines anyways..

my home is on Teksavvy. Never have any issues unless Rogers is in the area doing maintenance on the lines.

i'd rate it like 8/10. only because i think it could be cheaper. its 62 dollars/month for their Unlimited Bandwidth. never had issues with speed. on off hours i get between 45-50Mbit down. during peak hours between 20-30. Uploads are pretty much the same all the time at .99Mbits

before you sign up tho i'd check DSL reports forums and try and find information on your area (Major Intersection or cities). there are some people whom have constant issues with service.

I use teksavvy for home phone and DSL and the service is fine. I had some problems with Syncing but it was alway's on Bell's end. Speed is always consistant at 5Mb and pings are really good.

Alright I called Rogers and spoke with the regular CSR who offered me only 10%, then I was transferred to the retention department. Retention department offered me 20% off cable TV with free rental box (1 HD non PVR and 1 SD) and $10 off home phone but they can't offer me any discount on the Internet because there is no promotion at the moment

I accepted the 20% cable discount but will call back later today to give them my 30 days notice to transfer ISP. Pretty sure I am switching my internet service to one of the 3.

Also I found out after I port my home phone number to another provider, I will be charge 1 month of service fee (complete BS )

I have to decide which one to pick, going to be a fun night reading up on DSL forums tonight

I had Teksavvy DSL and was pretty happy with them until I switched over to wireless. They seem to be the bigger of the 3 so I'd so go with them.

I've had teksavvy for the past year.. never had a billing issue, or any issue where I needed to call them. They may have bad CS but if you rarely have an issue, does it really matter?

My only advice, find a bell tech (either through friend or aquantaince etc) and get them to look at your issues if you have any. Usually it's super fast and they give you a straight up answer.

if reviews say it.. I dunno.. IMO, everyone has a bad story about any of the providers..

the three times I've had to call in to Bell for different issues, I've actually had the best experience compared to rogers. 5 to 10 minute wait at most, and all the issues were taken care of at the first CSR, and never had to be transferred to another person.
