The USMC had a pull up bar setup at Milwaukee Summer Fest a couple years ago. I think I did 31 or 32 when I was pretty buzzed.
Usual workout set is 15, 12, 10, 10, 10.

I can probably do about 18-20 legitimate pull-ups after a quick warmup. I'm a light guy, though. Tiny waist lol Have you ever attempted this? 18-20 is a shit load.
I do sets of 14 at the moment, which is why I figured 18-20 would be my max in one set. I'll try it tomorrow just for the hell of it. Maybe I'm way off.

Maybe 5? I do 3-5 off my hang-board occasionally. I was working on getting above 12 a while back, but I find if I don't do it regularly I'm no good. I could do 5 with 45lbs of added weight a while ago, but I always fatigue on quantity on pull ups.
Probably 15 chins though. SO much easier. I used to excel at flexed arm hang when I was a skinny fuck too. Just find that whole angle so much easier (shit lats IDK?)

This thread would be significantly more entertaining if people started *guessing* how many pull ups others can do.

At my peak I could do 50 dead hang chin ups (actually just stopped because I got bored) and 30 pull ups both under the chin and behind the neck. Now, maybe 20 and 10? I'm an out of shape old man now...

lulz..
I can do about 16-18 dead hang chin-ups.
In the Marines, 20 pullups of chinups is perefect on the fitness test. Not too many people can hit 20.
They are serious about "dead hang" pull ups too. Your elbows need lock out on each rep. None of that fake crossfit shit is allowed. It's funny to see when guys are doing it wrong and the guy counting reps is like, "1, 1, 1, 1.. anytime you wanna start doing pullups... ok, 2,2,3,4"
Sucks because by that time, the person has wasted all their energy and ends up with a fucked up score.

I can do them all... The question really is all 1 or 10 or 20... I'm tall and stick like arms so probably all is 1 to 5...

Ready? Begin. 0,0,0,1,1,2,3,4,4,4,4,4,5 and you're done.... so many times I used to be a dick about it making suer I rested my chin on the bar and dangled at the bottom and making the person counting say "ok" at the top and bottom.

Pullups are more about body makeup than anything else. I've got a buddy that can do over 50. He regularly does sets weighted at around 65lbs.
He's also 5'7" and 140lbs so it's all relative.

Fuck all this bullshit, let's talk about MUSCLE UPS, you pussyfaces. that's how I tore the labrum in my left shoulder. Was being stupid and doing them past my fatigue level, got half way up and lost stability in my shoulder. It was bad enough to need rehab but not bad enough for surgery. But now I have a dead spot in my range of motion, about 3 inches of travel from about my chin to my nose. Makes heavy strict shoulder presses difficult.
Well, you ain't no punk.

Not sure, I'd guess 14-15. I start with weighted ones (45's), then go to bodyweight.
I don't find any significant difference between chins and pulls in rep counts though.
Yea, probably depends on your build.. I think pull ups are more biceps and chin ups are more back muscles.

Yeah. Some people are just really good at them. I've seen a skinny guy rip off high 20's before. My wife knows a few girls who never work out and can out do her on the annual fitness test.

50 seems outrageous.
BTW, I don't even know mine. I generally do sets of weighted 8 (25lb weight).

Back in the olden days I could do a straight arm one arm pullup. That shit is HARD.
Hmmmm...might try this. I think maybe if I kept balanced. Not grabbing my wrist with the free hand but handing a towel to grab (lower) to keep straight.
Either way that's a bitch of thing to accomplish.

I'd be lucky to get like 2? If I was 140lbs, I'd probably get more, lol.

legit one arm or one handed? I can do 1 handed pullups no problem (off hand gripping on hand wrist). One armed, i.e. off hand dangling at side or on chest, nope. http://www.beastskills.com/one-arm-chin-up-pull-up/I used to do them with towels, but could never get a legit one armed pullup.
Anyone can do a one handed pullup. The hardest part of one arm is the initial bend from straight. That is extremely hard.

Anyone can do a one handed pullup. Dude...not even anyone can do a single 2 handed one.
Also, srsly doubt you're referring to pull-ups. You mean 1 handed chin-up.

srsly? I was in the ~24-30 range for chinups a looong time ago and was never even close to a 1-armed chinup [free arm just dangling/flailing for balance and touching nothing]
I always figured you'd need to be around 40-70 range [normal 2 arm] to be able to pull one off /no idea

Who are these men doing "chin ups?"
I thought those were exclusively for girls in gym class. Actually I do both. Usually low rep curls for Bi's and high rep chin-ups.
Pull-ups on DL day.
