I was looking at this for some dumb reason at Costco yesterday. Reading the label, it doesn't seem healthy at all. Am I right or wrong?

It's not "unhealthy," per se, but it has a ton of calories for very little nutritional value.

You'd be better off buying a quality protein powder.

Agreed... There's not enough protein in that "weight loss" shake to even make it worth your while... I wouldn't say it's "unhealthy" though...

My wife picks these up for me every now and then
http://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/weight-watchers/creamy-chocolate-smoothie

a bit pricey ($7.50 for 7 packets), but tasty. I throw one in the blender with a cup of skim milk and a pear and it fills me up for a LONG time.

Otherwise, I do a scoop of protein, 1/2 cup almond milk or skim milk, 1/2+ cup of water and a serving (1/2 cup IIRC) of frozen blueberries or mixed berries. That is pretty filling, as well.

I'm on a pretty good antioxidant tear lately.

IMO if the ingredients include sugar then it's not a healthy alternative...

That Costco shake is more a generic Slim-Fast weight loss shake than a protein shake. They have pre-mixed protein shakes at Costco that have around 20g of protein and under 200 calories from what I remember.

Yep, that's the one, guess it has more protein than I thought. I think it's good, I used to buy it but it gets pricey and I can get the same protein/calories from the powder stuff for much less.

I use Pure Protein in Frosty Chocolate. 140cal, 25g protein. $20 for 2lbs at Target. 5g of BCAA's too, IIRC.

Plus, they sponsor the National MS Society, so I will gladly support them.

They've had mislabeling issues in the past.

It also has an artificial sweeteners Fructo-oligosaccharide and sucrulose.

I think most of the protein shakes available on the market have some form of sucrulose in it. Have to add something to make it sweet.

Fuck the haters.

Seriously. I've yet to see any credible evidence that either of them are harmful in normal doses. Most of the arguments revolve around "But they're artificial!" Aspartame has been linked to cancer in mice, but to get the equivalent dosage in a human, you'd have to drink like 2,000 cans of aspartame soda per day.

Devil in the dosage.

Can't have sucralose. Can't have aspartame. Can't have sugar. WTF CAN we have??

Why? Personal reasons? Or is there something I should be concerned with?

It's a chemical. The people who drink 6 diet cokes a day might want to be concerned with it, but otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it all that much.

Just personal reasons based on my limited research. \:\) Cutting artificial sweeteners and sugar, (carbs/processed foods), from my diet has done wonders for my blood pressure. I think sugar is just like any other substance and your body gets used to it. I just got used to not having it.

You have to drink a lot more than 6 to see any effects.

I think 2 gallons a day is a little excessive.

everything is a chemical...

Just because its natural doesnt mean its automaticly superior. I guess if youre a religious purpose you might consider intelligent design. Otherwise, your putting alot of faith in survival of the fittest.

If youre able to eat beans and lean organic meat 24/7, more power to you. For most, its a compromise of happiness and results.
