http://www.flickr.com/photos/eschn3am/8081394119/in/photostream/lightbox/Just a fun edit of an old favorite. This is the first time I've used selective areas of color in a B&W photo. Normally I really dislike using that technique, but I think it's too cool to pass up here. My hard drive crashed last week and in the process of setting up my new hard drive I went through a lot of my old photos. That lit a bit of a spark and motivated me to set up my photo workstation (photo monitor and Wacom) for the first time since moving to Madison last fall. I don't have a lot of time to get out and photograph these days, but it feels good to be messing around in Photoshop again. Even if it's just re-working old material. And as an aside, if your computer is running slowly and working on large files is a drag, consider buying an SSD. I bought a 256gb Samsung SSD for ~$200 and it's made an absolute world of difference. Everything just flies. And if you have a larger HDD for all your photos/videos/etc you can get away with buying a much smaller SSD and only loading your operating system and programs on it. Probably old news, I'm not much of a tech geek, but I thought I'd pass it along just in case.
Try adding a little bit of a blue tint to the right. Should take it to a slightly higher level.

Did a head shot today for a friend. Like how it turned out. LR4 Auto adjust is really nifty, much better than LR3.5!

I actually like the drab but slightly warm feeling it has. Selective coloring done right, like this, is very powerful.
A blue tint would just be a somber mood throughout the photo. Wouldn't be bad, but I like this better because the left side gives off a warm vibrant mood whereas the right side gives off that somber mood. Maybe a little blue on the absolute right part of the frame and minimal at most. But I really like it as is.

That's what I meant. It'd give it a bit more of that sunset feeling.

Thanks! I like it. Makes the picture feel more balanced to me, which, of course, means my original edit now looks it should be tilted towards the left :humph: I wonder if this has anything to do with my opinion:
  Hey, man. It works!

Distortion is ok for people under 300 lbs.
  Doesn't treat me so well.

Bump the shutter if you have to... If you've got enough light the ISO should still stay in line so you don't end up with a pic like that last one (way too much noise for a shot like that)

If you wanted to go B&W with that, maybe a bit of the crop on the ceiling and a tad on the stools and it would turn out pretty good I think. It's way better in it's original state.

another thing to try is continuous shooting mode. that's what i do at the track. bikes go by at triple digits, hold down the shutter release, take 5 pics, hope that one is a keeper
