Would the results be that much different between 25-5-10 and 10-6-4 fertilizer?
Depends on what the grass needs.

can't go wrong with either, but 25 has the most nitrogen. That's probably why my grass is so thick.

I'm all about the Magic Carpet. It's fantastic.
I get it from Mavis Garden Supplies. $29+tax for a huge bag.
Thanks for the tip! Gonna hit that up.
Here's my issue, though. I want to overseed but I don't want to fertilize too early.. wouldn't adding fertilizer on new seeds be too much for them?
I never know what order or what timing to use when doing this stuff.
  My current thought is:
Rake to dethatch, aerate if possible, put down some top soil in spots as a dressing over existing grass, then overseed
Then wait.. 2? 3? weeks to fertilize...?

Fertilize FIRST, like a week before, then overseed etc
Once your soil health is proper, growing grass is easy.

Overseed then top dress. Don't do it the other way around. You need at most 1/4in of soil over the seed. Unless you plan on top dressing, then going over the entire lawn a again with a rake to stir up the soil and get the seed down in there.
If it was warm enough you want to dethatch, overseed, top dress, then water the shit out of the lawn (every other day). As soon as you're done dethatching it's a perfect time to put seed down. I wouldn't fertilize too soon after overseeding.

Guys with maple trees on their property....how do you clean your lawn of those damn helicopter seeds? It takes forever trying to rake them cuz they just go between the tines.
I've got 4 I need to clean up after, an absolute monster in the back yard. Use a plastic rake with wide forks, seems to work for me. You can always suck them up with the lawnmower as well, or grab one of those vacuum/blower/multcher things.

My grass looks like shit again this spring. Its all brown and dry, but the dandylions and weeds are growing pretty good lol. Im moving in June, but I still want it to look half decent until then. I'll be raking and fertilizing this week, so hoefully we get some rain.

I've got moss against the one side of my house.. Grading needs to be fixed, it's way too wet. Nothing a little physical labour won't fix.

Not bad mang, it's so much better when people can show their work.
Having said that, not to be nitpicky, but ideally I'd want to see close ups of the grass because pictures USUALLY look a lot better than reality, that's the case with my place...but as stated before I gave up. Yours is looking good!
When I get back into trying to recovery that lawn I want the right advice

It's a never ending battle that I'd rather not spend my valuable down time on. Now I just cut it short so the weeds blend in. Fuck that shit. (I did get it to a point were I was happy, then my neighbour 3 houses down put down seed. Lots of seed. There were a LOT of weeds in the mix and it spread up the street with the wind. )

Once your soil is healthy, you don't water as much.
Last year I only watered mainly in August & only when it was more than 2 days of 30+. With that said, Kentucky Blue Grass is BOSS in the heat, just goes dormant. Any of the fescue's forgetaboutit... you'll be watering that shit daily.

Too soon to resurrect this thread?
Just got back from the US where I loaded up with 5 bags of Milorganite. Bag of Grub Ex and a couple of bottles of Ortho & Spectracide. Got some Round Up too for the patio and problem areas down the side of my house.
