My parents have an Acer tablet, that just like a billion other products charges via a micro-USB cable. This is not a separate cable but rather internally connected to the charger. Over time the cable snapped off. No problem, these cables are a dime a dozen, or so I thought.
It turns out, this uses some sort of proprietary micro-USB plug (see the rectangular opening in the dead center of the connector). In addition, even if you track down one of these USB cables the tablet requires a 12V 1.5A power source (average charger is 5V .5-1A).
Looking online they go for about $30 but apparently a couple have been ordered and none of them work.
So I'm thinking maybe I can bust this bad boy open and solder the wires back in. The only problem is, I have no idea how to open this thing without damaging it? No screws, no seams. Any pointers?

Buy new tablet. Swap chargers. Return.
The RFD way.

Buy new tablet. Swap chargers. Return. The RFD way. Not that I'm considering it (i'm not) but even then you'd have to know whether or not the cable is the same. I'm not sure if this is something that Acer did to all their tablets.
I'd buy a new one but (1) I dont think the tablet is worth that much anymore and (2) I can't guarantee the replacement will work.

Get a 12v charger and cut it and solder the USB wire to that one?
