Yea there is a lot of shitty post and I hate the way he generally places the ring light. The way it makes that unmistakable shadow just doesn't work for me, IMO it looks better to have some fill to alleviate those but what do I know. I bought a book about him about 15 years ago and have never seen it in print since. Found a picture of it on ebay. Here are some of his images. Warning, there may be man bits. More here, possible warning If anyone remembers Nine Inch Nail's video for Closer, you may recognize Appelt's work. There isn't much to it, honestly. You need plenty of light, clear water, and a great waterproof case (depending on what type of camera you're using). And good timing. I bet a lot of the blue was brought back in PP and then contrast was added since the water is probably somewhat murky.
