I just picked up my new black/ebony leather G5 GT on Monday night. It's the sister car to the Chevy Cobalt SS [non-supercharged model]. I got it fully loaded for just a hair over $22k out the door. I got the heated leather seats, sunroof, Pioneer 7-speaker stereo, 6-disc in-dash cd-player, side curtain airbags, free 1-year of OnStar, free 3-months of XM radio, foglights, and the remote start. I love this car, it's leaps and bounds beyond the Sunfire/Cavalier it replaced. It drives really smooth and has good power with the 2.4 Ecotec. I can easily pass on the highways, and merge in traffic. It handle really good, and takes bumps and potholes no problem. Gives great space in the cockpit, I even had to move my seat up. Lots of trunk space. Gets pretty good gas milage, 25city and 32highway. All around great car, and I'm glad I got it over any other car in it's price/power range. And I'm loving the free 3-months of XM radio.

Now for the pictures. Excuse the mess, it rained and snowed for the past couple of days here in Ohio.

Looks better than the Cobalt. Any reason for you to have gotten the slushbox over the "row-your-own" box?

$6k less gets you the base model with the 148hp 2.2 Ecotec and hardly any options [like heated seats, mp3 cd-player, ect]. The 2.4 Ecotec has 173hp/163tq compared to the 2.2. I would have gotten the 5-speed, but I have a history of foot pain in my left foot from time to time, and it would be hard to drive a stick with that.

It may seem like a lot of money for that car, but it'll really hold its value well.

Sorry, but 22K is a freaking HUGE! ripoff. Sign me up for a VW GTi or a Civic Si for that price or better yet, a Mazdaspeed 3. For less money, I'd take a Mazda 3 Sport.

You could also do some smart shopping for an Altima or WRX.

They did a good job on the G5 GT, its looks better than the N/A SS ,and 173 hp isnt bad.

EDIT if you convert to canadian funds impulsive , the mazda 3 is more expensive.

Yeah, but he didn't buy it in Canada.

And it still sucks compare to the competition. Shit, for 22k, Why not just get the Supercharged Cobalt ? This whole purchase wreaks of paying sticker price for a pseudo J body, which is unheard of.

I'm not going to be nice on this purchase. It's a huge ripoff.

I don't know why people are so uptight about resale values. Not everyone buys a car just to turn around and sell it next year. Some people do keep cars longer then 5 years.

Well in that case he might as well have saved ~$8 and bought a slightly used one in the next few months.

Trying to save money buy keeping a car for more than a few years + buying a new car != fantastic bang-for-the-buck types of deals...

Ive had my celica for 5yrs(now paid off woot) and my Spec-v for 4yrs, so i dont sell my cars every few years. But when you buy a GM, you arent exactly buying a quality care(granted the colbalt/G5 maybe better than the Jbody), but 22k for what you got in that car is a COMPLETE ripoff.

yerp thats what happens when you dont consult SvA first on car purchases.

Isn't that also mazdaspeed 6 territory? Like a 1-2 year old G35 territory, loooong list once you've crossed $20k

I guess he could've bought a dodge
I didn't know they made that car. Damn them and their bloody chassis sharing. They don't even try anymore. They slap a different bumper on it and it's a pontiac.

I like them. I mean, seriously, I would drive a Cobalt. Not a bad car. But for $15K. LAWLZ.

I paid 17K for my Mazda 3 hatch with the sunroof/ 6 cd option.

Yes, that's MS6 territory if you look around. Also saw WRX TR's down the street from me for $21K flat no-haggle sticker price. Really tempting if it weren't for the retardedly small back seat.

The most direct competition for that I would think would be the Scion tC and Hyundai Tiburon therefore I'm thinking for @17k it would be a good buy.

GM thanks you for paying sticker though.

I paid 17k for my brand new SRT.
I don't think that this G5 is worth 5k more than my car.

Wow dude, i normally don't question peoples car purchases but 22K for THAT?? I was hoping you meant canadian dollars. Bro, for 20K+ there are much better options out there.

I will admit though, the car looks good.

I got my Saabaru for under $20,000... if I wanted leather and a sun roof it would have been closer to $21,000-$22,000 but still. What a freaking rip off! That being said, it isn't a bad looking car. I just think a price around $18,000-$19,000 would be more like it.

Here is a Cobalt SS supercharged for just over $21,000:

Bigger than a Mk4 Jetta's back seat.

I can fit a child seat behind me (with less than an inch to spare and I am 6 feet tall). I can also fit back there. So while it is small, I would not call it retardedly small.

Here are some pics:

I picked up my 06 Cobalt SS non-SC 5-speed for 17,200 out the door, or about 16,500 before tax/tag/title/etc... Granted, it's cloth seats, 5-speed, no XM, no Pioneer, but that's not worth an extra 6k...

My brother has a MKIV, it has an atrocious backseat. Worse than the WRX, but it doesn't make the WRX any better. Why give it a backseat only to have it be a penalty box? It's no bigger than an RX8, which is much better packaged. A sedan with sucky backseats makes no sense IMO. IIRC I'd prefer a Civic hatch or Focus hatch backseat for room to the Jetta and WRX.
